@onlysmartbrain @Kol_Lateral @kitsuneredFES @MelvinProphete Higher Attack & Speed, better level up learnset, earlier final stage evolution. And you get them both at the beginning of the game so the smart choice is always Spearow. And that's just FRLG. In Gen 1 Pidgey doesn't even have a flying type move whereas Spearow starts with Peck.

@onlysmartbrain @kitsuneredFES @MelvinProphete In what way is it not besides being having less bulk? It gets Aerial Ace super early which is better than anything Pidgey gets for a long time, it's faster, hits harder, and fully evolves a lot earlier. I'd rather have good offense with bad defense than be mediocre all around.

@kitsuneredFES @MelvinProphete To be fair though (as a Zubat and Tentacool enjoyer) Geodude is much more immediately helpful than Zubat, and Magikarp is almost exclusively a fishing encounter in most games. Rattata can be good early on and Pidgey deserves all the flack because Spearow exists lol

@MelvinProphete Just counting Kanto alone, the Pidgey and Rattata lines appear on almost every single route those games have, and Pokemon like Geodude and Magikarp appear on every single route that Zubat and Tentacool appear on, and yet none of them get treated the same way as them
