Being a Nigerian is a lot of disadvantage already, there’s a lot to fight for to even reach the real starting point.

The version of you that writes code and the version that builds systems are not the same person. The transition is deliberate. It doesn’t happen by accident.

He wasn’t lazy. He just didn’t know what he was doing wrong. Every day, he opened his laptop, watched tutorials, followed along, built exactly what the instructor built… and closed it feeling productive. But months passed. No job. No progress. Just confusion.

Six months later, nothing magical happened. No viral moment. No overnight success. But something changed: He could explain his decisions. He could debug without panic. He could think. That’s when interviews started to feel different.

So he changed one thing. Instead of asking, “What tutorial should I watch?” He started asking, “What problem can I solve?” His first attempt was messy. Bugs everywhere. Nothing perfect. But for the first time… it was his.

One day, someone asked him a simple question: “Show me something you built on your own.” He opened his projects… Same UI. Same code. Same structure as YouTube. That was the moment it hit him. He wasn’t building. He was copying.
