no millennial trope has broken more brains than "you don't owe anybody anything". an ignoble, selfish narcissism dressed up in therapy-speak about boundaries and self-care in order to give yourself a pass from treating other people with a basic level of care and respect

serious talk but is it evil when u stop trying to help someone because they don't put effort in trying to help themselves. like I don't want to make it about myself but they don't seem to want to be better so you just kinda stop trying to help them cause its not gonna do anything

The problem with people like Carl is that they just don’t care that much about social disorder that affects other people. Their measurement is always themselves. It doesn’t personally affect them if people are shooting up on the subway or in a public park or if a homeless woman is walking around naked or if a psychotic person knocks over an old lady. But if you’re the old lady or if you have small children or if you just care about the state of your community then these things will matter to you. It’s important to understand that these people are spiritually leftist. They won’t come right and say that social disorder is a good thing, they might even register mild social disapproval, but they will dissemble on behalf of these sorts of degradations and try to make the case that you’re the problem if you find what’s happening truly objectionable.
Carl@HistoryBoomer

A big part of “cities are awful” discourse is some people are more scared by rough areas than others. I was in NYC in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I saw real crime. I am less easily scared than Coddled clearly is. This doesn’t mean crime isn’t bad, it’s just not as bad as they claim.

The internet constantly tells women that men are terrible listeners because the second a woman starts venting about her day, the man immediately interrupts to offer a logical solution. We are taught to view this as him being dismissive, emotionally unintelligent, or invalidating our feelings. The strict, unpopular truth is that to a man, fixing the problem is his absolute highest, most desperate form of empathy. Women vent to connect; we want our partner to just sit in the dark with us and validate the emotion. But men are hardwired to view the woman they love being in distress as an active threat. When he immediately offers a spreadsheet, a strategy, or a solution to your problem, he isn't trying to silence you. His brain has recognized that something in the world is hurting his partner, and his immediate, visceral instinct is to assassinate the thing causing you pain. We constantly shame men for "not just listening," completely ignoring the fact that his attempt to fix your life is his most profound declaration of love.

What opinion about Men do you have that makes people feel like this?

@Kole264 @Dexterdagenius @s3xybl3ss3d @evildanevil What sense does it make to say you are NOT being willfully honest, if in the next sentence you are gonna pivot to PHYSICAL impossibilties in reference to a MENTAL disorder? That is what people do, constantly. You just want an excuse to go after them.

@hawkofkrypton @Dexterdagenius @s3xybl3ss3d @evildanevil I’m not being dishonest, i’m not asking anyone to perform actions that are physically impossible. I am saying that there is an expectation to continue trying to improve your conditions despite the difficulty or lack of success.

@Kole264 @Dexterdagenius @s3xybl3ss3d @evildanevil There is "doing something for yourself", then there are things you will never be able to do because of immutable factors, this is a pretty basic life lesson your point needs to ignore. No one here said "never do anything"? Sorry, dishonesty is useless.

@hawkofkrypton @Dexterdagenius @s3xybl3ss3d @evildanevil I would hope you have people in your life that are patient and sympathetic to your plights, because thats something we all deserve. However it is unreasonable to do absolutely nothing about whatever ails you because it’s hard, or that nothing has worked so far.

@hawkofkrypton @Dexterdagenius @s3xybl3ss3d @evildanevil I believe one of them before me put it best in that “if something like halloween decorations causes you undue stress then you’re going to have a long hard life”. Conditions like *that* aren’t something anyone else can change for you. If you want that to stop, its up to you alone.

@hawkofkrypton @Dexterdagenius @s3xybl3ss3d @evildanevil Perhaps because its not up to everyone around you to do *anything*. You can either take charge of your life in spite of whatever conditions you deal with, or you can continue to whine and suffer in misery while everyone around you gets tired of hearing about it.

Has anyone taken a gap year in their mid 20s & done well afterwards? if so, what did you spend the gap year doing? and did it get brought up by future employers?
