A $1M question for dissenting Serbs: Why is Aleksandar Vučić militarizing around Kosovo; to serve Russia, fuel tension, or stay in power? With NATO & KSF on the ground, any attack would be suicidal. So what’s the real goal?

@atomac23 Srbin.

@EOnimst @jurgen_nauditt Bottom line: “proximity or bust” ignores reality. Serbia’s FDI is diversifying fast, with China & Asian capital filling gaps, while lithium could add leverage. Therefore EU funds are useful, not irreplaceable.

@EOnimst @jurgen_nauditt FDI in Serbia isn’t just about EU access—low costs, skilled labor, incentives & its hub position keep investors coming. Even as accession stalled, inflows rose (incl. China in steel/mining). Political risk’s long been priced in and there has been no mass exodus.

Serbia could lose €1.5 billion (approximately $1.6 billion) in EU funding, one reason being its close ties with Russia, Politico reports. Although Serbia is not an EU member, it has been in accession talks since 2014 and is eligible for funds and grants to support legal reforms. “We are increasingly concerned about what is happening in Serbia… From laws undermining the independence of the judiciary to the crackdown on protesters and ongoing interference in the work of independent media,” EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos told Politico. The European Commission is assessing whether Belgrade continues to meet the conditions for “payments under EU financial instruments,” she added. “We also expect Serbia, as a candidate country, to support us in foreign policy and to adhere more closely to our positions,” Kos said, without mentioning Russia directly. @Bosnakmedya_ Great illustration of why Princip went on to shoot Franz Ferdinand. When AH annexed Bosnia in 1908, they left the feudal system intact — keeping Serbs in bondage to Muslim overlords who owned ~91% of the land. People should study this and understand the deeper grievances."

@TSelenic Love, it’s clear you’ve never stepped into an Orthodox church - had you, you’d know what metanoia is. Don’t be a “try hard” & stop embarrassing yourself. Communism ended in 1989. We’re now free to worship as per our traditions without fear of persecution. Happy Easter 😘

After years and years of - obviously- completely ineffective appeasement the European Commission finally starts moving in the right direction. Do it! Pressure the government to choose democracy and #ruleoflaw and communicate clearly we stand on the side of the Serbian people.

🚨 #KOSOVO* GOOD FRIDAY OUTRAGE: Kurti’s inspectors stormed Serbian villages Banje & Suvo Grlo, shutting down the St. Nicholas Clinic and local healthcare center, then ripping down school signs! This is pure ethnic terror. Kurti’s ongoing campaign of fire and fury against Serbs has now stripped entire communities of basic healthcare. International community: STOP KURTI NOW before more Serbs are left to suffer in silence! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! 🔥🛑 kosovo-online.com/en/news/politi…

Dyeing Easter eggs is an exercise in applied chemistry and physical labor. Across Eastern Europe and the Orthodox world, the process goes far beyond simple food coloring. In Ukraine and Romania, hot beeswax is drawn directly onto the shell to block out geometric patterns before the egg is submerged in progressively darker dye baths. When the wax is finally melted away, the stark design is revealed. In Serbia and Montenegro, the method relies entirely on boiling and tension. Wet leaves are pressed flat against the shell, strapped down tightly, and dropped into a boiling vat of dry onion skins to stain the exposed egg a deep mahogany. Other methods require a much heavier hand. For Drapanki, the egg is dyed solid, and then the surface is aggressively scratched with a sharp needle to carve out the pattern. Whether it is the deep, oil polished crimson of Greek Kokkina Avga or the dark red root stain of Georgian Endro, these are not delicate decorations. They are hardened, heavily dyed, and polished specifically to be smashed against each other at the holiday table.

🇪🇺🇷🇸 EU expected to freeze up to €1.5 Billion in planned funding for Serbia over concerns about democratic backsliding and its close ties with Russia. EU commisioner Marta Kos said EU is concerned about laws undermining judicial independence, crackdowns on protesters and repeated interference in independent media. The EU also wants Serbia to align its foreign policy with the bloc and impose sanctions on Russia. (Via: Politico eu)
