The #Eagles didn’t offer Brian Daboll the OC job, nor have they yet to officially offer the job to anyone, per sources, but he was a top target, went through a formal interview process, and had support from key individuals in the organization. He told the Eagles that he was pursuing other opportunities. They continued on with their process. Doesn’t mean they won’t find a suitable replacement, but they are now two weeks removed from Kevin Patullo’s ouster.

Signs were pointing in this direction for over a week: that Brian Daboll would become the Titans OC if he didn’t get a HC opportunity. #Eagles had Daboll high on their list of candidates to fill their OC vacancy. He essentially told them of his plans last week. In Tennessee, he’ll work under a defensive-minded HC in Robert Saleh and with second-year QB Cam Ward. Daboll would also conceivably be given more of a runway with the floundering Titans. Hard not to show improvement with that offense. That said, given the chance to work under Nick Sirianni, again with QB Jalen Hurts — he was briefly his OC in Alabama — and for a team one year removed from the Super Bowl, Daboll said no thanks.

@BackupHangman Well because he turned his “character” into his reality. HE made himself to be not jsut some character you see on tv. HE decided to break character and “stand up for something”. So YES it’s fair he is overly criticized when HE put himself in that position

Every promo he cuts can’t just be viewed as a promo. They’re dissected line for line for their real life merit and people try to play gotcha. Nobody else’s promos get consumed this way in the modern day. When other people speak it’s consumed as fiction, when he talks on the show it’s broken down and analyzed like its comments on an interview or a podcast when he himself is cutting a promo on a tv show and is playing a character. On some level I wonder if that in and of itself is an indication that he’s still able to work people more than the average wrestler or not. People approach Punk’s promos with their arms folded repeatedly telling themselves they won’t be worked and pointing at the screen for any holes in the stories he tells.

I thought it was an excellent pro wrestling promo on a television show. The CM Punk character is at his best when he’s positioned as a figure that is gutsy and doesn’t give a fuck about anything, and he had fantastic material against Roman. It was a for the boys, for the business, and for the fans, ace promo that added heat to his title match and framed him as a renegade figure on the television show. Really well done and well constructed.
