Instead we want to create a set of functional requirements for devices to connect with the grid and bring together utilities and manufacturers to determine what these functionalities should be.

When you buy headphones, I bet you never worry about connecting them to your phone – because you have bluetooth. Mercury is like bluetooth for energy. And it won't just sync devices to each other, but to the grid, so everything works with the wind and sun.

@Eddie_Sanders @OctopusEnergy Hi @Eddie_Sanders, @OctopusEnergy are a founding member of the consortium and so will be working as part of the group of defining functional requirements for their heat pump (Cosy). If someone has another brand of heat pump, we are welcoming device manufactures to participate.

@OctopusEnergy Is this the case for the heat pumps that you're installing? As a consumer I'd be happy to vary the target temperature based upon how cheap it'd be.
