Several months ago, I had a pretty bad incident with my back (ambulance required). I had my last physical therapy session today, and they gave me this snazzy t-shirt. Grateful for the improvement!

@BeckyLTuch I got one for a story about a mentally-ill middle-aged man. In the story he drives an SUV. The rejecting editor said “it’s hard to feel anything for a spoiled SUV-driving guy who has everything but is still unfulfilled”. The story went on to be editors pick in another journal. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Here's what I want to see in my query inbox! I want stories with unique characters taking on unique and specific stakes, conflicts that they have created from their past, problems they can't escape, with no easy solutions, and no choice but to involve the ones they love.

@JustineBateman Agreed. PA is a wonderful way to get early on set experience for young people just starting out, much easier without unionizing.

I’m 100% in favor of unions in entertainment, but this one is different and could have the undesirable consequence of eliminating their ultimate goal. The awkward element of this labor union push is that it would be fine if PA was a career position, but it just not. Most PA’s hope to become producers, and that is a notoriously and purposely non-union position. So, they’d wind up being just “set runners” with no opportunity to scale the ladder to “producer,” because being a producer is a 24-7 job with no pay most of the time, until you get that windfall when you’re in production. And if the PAs were unionized during those productions, the producers would wind up doing much of the work themselves that they’d normally let fall to PA’s, because they won’t be able to afford to have them do 24-7 kinds of responsibilities. Hence they’d never see if they can count on the PA like that, and consequently never elevate them to associate producer, co-producer, etc. This is a tricky one, considering making a career of being a PA is not on many people’s to do list.
