Now might be a good time to note this will be one of my final stories for the paper. Today is my last day at the OWH, after seven years covering Sarpy County, education, floods and now a global pandemic. I'll be starting a new job at the Buffett Early Childhood Institute

After 24.5 years as the Photo Editor/Chief Photographer at The Independent covering Central Nebraska, I am retiring from my position. Today is my last working day. Very lucky and grateful to be retiring -- not being retired.

It saddened me when I heard of Rudy Smith's passing a few months ago. But I'm so glad the the World Hearld finished the book that honors his more than 45 years of photographs documenting the Black experience in Omaha. Good work @KristineGerber and everyone who worked on it.

More infections every day. Schools closed. Hundreds quarantined. Masks advised. With all of the #coronavirus worry, I was curious how Omaha responded to one of the worst pandemics in recent history: The 1918-1919 Spanish Influenza outbreak. 1/??
