@letsnotbehayest I am always very careful to pronounce 'factanal' correctly when teaching factor analysis.

@wesbonifay Bud loved his job so much he would say he couldn't believe they paid him to do what he did. I have tried to emulate him for my entire career, and will always, always fall short. Such a wonderful human being, and such a loss for the rest of us.

@GolinoHudson Thank you Hudson. What a great loss. John was the poet laureate of Quantitative Psychology -- a great wit, creative genius, inspiring writer, and a wonderful person. He will be missed by many.

Today John Nesselroade and I were supposed to have a fun afternoon with Brazilian coffee and cheesebread, and lots of laughter. When I was about to pick him up, he did not answer to the phone. His wife, Carolyn, did. And she shared the sad news. John has passed away.
He was not just one of the founding fathers of Quantitative Psychology, and a living legend. He was a dear friend to a countless of people, a caring and very kind individual. And, a very, very funny person.
In 2007, with the passing of Paul Baltes, he wrote a letter to celebrate his life and the LIFE academy, that Paul created and shaped. Here's my favorite part of the letter:
"Finally, a few words of advice about life that obviously do come from a philosopher: "In the future, if life should give you lemons, make lemonade. Then, find someone to whom life has given Jack Daniels- blend your assets and have a party! Paul would approve -as long as you finish that manuscript first. But-hey! Thats life!"
He will be missed by many, and is survived by his wife and children. His work and legacy will keep impacting our field for generations to come.
Lastly, let me share a personal story. In my second year as a professor at the University of Virginia I wrote an email to John. I told him I wanted to do my PhD with him when I was applying to PhD programs (I was also interested in studying with Denny Borsboom). But I decided not to apply. He did not know that, and he replied saying that he would not take me as a graduate student because he rather have me as a colleague in the department so we could work for a longer period of time. But, he said, I was '30 years late'.
I will miss him forever.
And I regret not enjoying more his presence when I had the chance.

@FredOswald I love this, and it's roughly how I explain logistic regression in my classes. Why do people still report odds ratios when plotting p(y=1) is an option??

@letsnotbehayest "...we would also ask reviewers to comment on any major methodological limitations the authors should also consider." ...Can this include comments like "The authors should elaborate at length on their statistical methods and not relegate them to footnotes and online appendices"?
