Bryce Harper‘s statement: “In response to a recent article in The Philadelphia Inquirer, I want to provide the following facts. I joined Cameo to engage with fans through paid personalized videos. What happened here went beyond anything I knew about or approved. In November 2024, someone identifying themselves only as "Bryttanni" submitted an order through Cameo for a personal"holiday video for Terry." Cameo had a separate category for business video requests, and at the time I did not know this video would be used for commercial purposes. The request included a short script. I read it in good faith. FanDuel then put its own logo on the video and used it as a gambling promotion. I did not know FanDuel would do this, I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it. Had I known FanDuel's true intent, I would not have made the video. The same is true had I known anything about Terry or his situation, or about any alleged "partnership" between Cameo and FanDuel. Contrary to the Inquirer's suggestion, l did not know the Cameo video would be used for a FanDuel VIP promotion, and I have no affiliation with FanDuel whatsoever. Counsel has directed me not to comment any further at this time.

@Ian__Robb Thats fair but the whole league (and every other professional sports league afaik) take those sponsorships. I’m fully with you that things need to change though. The problem is way more than specifically Bryce Harper. The precedent was set by the league itself.

@Krypsizzle I understand that it may be extreme, but the precedent is there for banning players for betting. He may not be betting, but having his name next to a betting company is unacceptable and shouldn't be allowed

Bryce Harper shouldn’t be allowed to play baseball. It’s unacceptable that as a society we have allowed sport betting to infect sports leagues

@Ian__Robb Seems like an extreme start, Ian. But I agree something needs to change. Whether it’s banning betting advertisements, or whatever. But just ripping Bryce Harper’s career away seems crazy.

@Krypsizzle He isn't fully at fault for this, but punishment needs to start somewhere to start to get the problem fixed.

@Chosler @Ian__Robb I get that, and agree. But he hasn’t broken any rules. It may be (arguably) morally wrong. But he should be banned? That’s my gripe. Not disagreeing with the premise, just that Bryce Harper isn’t responsible.

Maybe Vance doesn't know this history because it's in one of the books his administration banned. The difference between Watergate and now is that back then, Republicans actually did something about a law-breaking president. Today, they only roll over for their cult leader.
