Roy Keane is absolutely spot on here, but of course Manchester United fans won’t like hearing it. This is a club that has been drowning in mediocrity for years, managers getting sacked, standards falling, players hiding, and the whole club moving like a mid-table project. Now the first time there’s a little bit of light, the main conversation is about assist records, documentaries, and interviews about personal numbers. That’s exactly the problem Roy Keane is talking about. The Manchester United team Keane played for didn’t celebrate assist records like trophies. They celebrated Premier League titles, Champions League nights, FA Cups, and dominance. That was the standard. Messi has broken records that some players can only dream of, but you’ll never see him crying because a teammate stopped him from adding one more stat. Greatness doesn’t beg for validation. Bruno’s record is impressive, no doubt, but he’s doing too much. You can’t be moving like you’ve completed football when Manchester United are still nowhere near where they’re supposed to be. At a club like United, assists should be part of the job not the headline of the season.

@PhenomenalF8 Well the sentiment was that he/they were trying to force the assist and were clearly focused on it because of the record. The game meant nothing, so I really don’t care tbh, but doesn’t mean the overall point was wrong.

Roy Keane misquoted Bruno. The sentiment in what he was saying was right imo but he was wrong about that specifically. That said, the disrespect towards Keane on here in recent weeks has been poor. Keane did more for United in one night than Bruno ever has or ever will.

@Adroit_Cadet I agree that Bruno is more creative over all, but Pogba’s gravity was a real spectacle to watch. Being able to carry the ball, attract defenders and still find teammates in the extra space was so good. Bruno’s done well to maximise his skillset though!

Peak Pogba could definitely chat to Bruno in terms of passing & imagination on the ball, but what puts this version of Bruno above is things like spatial awareness (i.e. dummies, flicks), timing of final ball release, etc. Pogba was an extremely creative passer. Bruno is a creative machine. He impacts results through his chance creation (whether subtly or forcefully) way more
