Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas Officially Defects to APC, Received by VP Shettima in Jalingo
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday, January 31, 2026, during a grand reception ceremony in Jalingo.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, welcomed the governor, describing the move as a proud moment for the APC and the nation. Shettima praised Kefas' inclusive leadership, development focus, and handling of Taraba's ethnic and religious diversity, declaring him the undisputed APC leader in the state.
He urged residents to rally behind Kefas for unity and progress, noting the North East's growing APC strength.
APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda hailed the defection as Taraba's biggest political win and a major boost for the party, promising it would unlock economic potential, ensure fairness, and foster inclusivity. He called on Kefas to unite stakeholders.
Governor Kefas thanked the APC leadership and Federal Government, stressing his decision was driven by service, development, and Taraba's best interests not personal ambition.
