PRESS RELEASE: NORMALCY RESTORED AT KWARA STATE POLYTECHNIC FOLLOWING BRIEF STUDENT PROTEST The Management of Kwara State Polytechnic wishes to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians, and commuters, that a peaceful academic environment has been fully restored on campus and its immediate surroundings following a brief protest by a few students earlier today. The incident originated from reports of security operatives conducting official duties in the nearby Agbede village, an action which reportedly caused concern among some students of the institution. It is important to note that no arrests of students were made during the security operation. Early this morning, a small number of students expressed their displeasure by burning tyres along a section of the Old Jebba Road. The swift and professional intervention of combined security agencies and the Polytechnic’s own security personnel ensured the situation was contained promptly and without escalation. Management hereby assures the public that normalcy has been completely restored as students scheduled for morning examinations have been checked in by their invigilators and exams are ongoing as planned. The Management commends the security agencies and our internal security team for their rapid response and professionalism in handling the situation. We also appreciate the overwhelming majority of our students who remained calm and law-abiding. We urge the general public, especially commuters plying the Old Jebba Road, to go about their normal businesses without any fear or panic. The road is clear and safe for travel. The Polytechnic remains committed to the safety, welfare, and academic progress of all its students and staff.

The True Status of Verified Students List Upload on NELFund Portal The attention of the Polytechnic Authority has been drawn to an online report titled "NELFund: Kwarapoly yet to upload verified student list on loan portal" written by Imoleayo Oyedeyi of TheCable, Friday, March 6, 2026. According to the report, the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) claims that the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic is yet to upload the verified list of student applicants to its loan portal ahead of preparations for examinations in the institution. Students also alleged that they were unable to access the loan due to the Polytechnic’s failure to take necessary actions. The Polytechnic Authority therefore, wishes to state categorically that, contrary to the claim, the institution has verified the names of applicants sent by NELFund and has uploaded them to the NELFund portal. Status of some verified students from the Polytechnic NELFund Dashbord Students should note that an applicant's status on the portal can reflect either disbursed, pending, or rejected. Currently, students' status on the NELFund portal does not reflect pending, which means the institution has done the needful. Furthermore, for students yet to be verified, the Polytechnic NELFund dashboard reflects No Results, to indicate that all students have been verified and uploaded to the portal accordingly. The Polytechnic dash board indicating that all students have been verified The Management also wishes to bring to the notice of the general public that for the 2025/2026 academic session, a total of 809 students applied for the loan, and disbursement has been made for only 5 students. The Polytechnic has done everything necessary for disbursement and patiently awaits further action from NELFund. We therefore urge the concerned students to be patient as well, hoping the issue will be resolved soon. The Polytechnic dash board indicating the number of applicants and disbursement made so far

School Portal Reopened for Registrations After SUG Intervention In a responsive move, the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic has approved the reopening of the school portal to allow students who missed the registration deadline to complete their payments and registration processes. This decision follows a formal appeal made by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) during a recent meeting with the Committee of Principal Officers (CPO) at the Conference Room, Central Administration Building. Addressing the situation, the Ag. Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Felicia Olabisi Awolola acknowledged that while the delay in registration was primarily the fault of the students, the Management, acting in the spirit of parenthood, has chosen to grant a grace period for the affected students. However, she strongly advised all students to adhere to stipulated timelines in the future to avoid a repeat of such incidents. In another development, the Management also addressed allegations of illegal payments at the departments. The Ag. Rector urged students with credible evidence to come forward to assist the administration in conducting a thorough investigation. She reiterated the institution’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, emphasizing that the school “frowns against any form of corruption and will not condone it, either from staff or students.” Dr. Awolola therefore called on both staff and students to uphold high standards of integrity and good character, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to ethical conduct and administrative accountability. The portal reopening is expected to provide relief to many students who were at risk of being locked out of academic activities for the semester.
