Hollywood Basic Bargaining Update: Individual Local Negotiations with AMPTP begin
Following a caucus week, talks entered a new phase where each of IATSE’s 13 West Coast Studio Locals (WCSL) individually negotiate their Locals’ craft specific issues with the studios. This phase of the process is expected to last from March 18 to April 26.
In an effort to ensure each of these 13 local unions has sufficient time to negotiate with the AMPTP ahead of the resumption of the Hollywood Basic Agreement General Negotiations and the start of the IATSE-AMPTP Area Standards Agreement Negotiations, two locals will negotiate simultaneously at any given time.
On Monday March 18th, the International Cinematographer’s Guild (IATSE Local 600) and the Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) each began their individual negotiations with the studios. The Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700) and IATSE Local 729 are expected to begin their negotiations with the AMPTP later in the week.
IATSE International Vice President Mike Miller commented, “The work that the Locals did to prepare each of their Negotiating Committees, which included town hall meetings, member surveys, bargaining trainings and one-on-one conversations, is unprecedented. The process identified clear priorities and helped develop the proposals that the Locals’ members want addressed by the employers.”
IATSE's negotiations have generated a historic level of solidarity in the United States and abroad.
On March 3, a joint ‘Many Crafts, One Fight’ rally in Los Angeles saw thousands of union members across the Hollywood labor movement unite in support of behind-the-scenes workers.
During the Oscars telecast March 10, a salute to the negotiations of the behind-the-scenes unions kicked off the show.
Finally, on March 14, UNI Global Union, which represents 20 million service workers worldwide in 150 countries, including 500,000 workers in over 100 unions and guilds in the media, entertainment and arts sector, issued a statement of support for IATSE's ongoing negotiations.

I was on a social media hiatus, but I'm breaking my sobriety to say I back our @MPEG700 and @IATSE bargaining teams pushing for a fair contract! #ManyCraftsOneFight #IAsolidarity

this is like when all the celebs sang “imagine” but somehow it’s even more beautiful when they’re trying to bail out billionaires 🕊️

@jessekoepkecuts That second person is probably not the world's best editor if they have such a bad attitude.

@maggielehrman Oh yeah, the voice thing, absolutely no interest! But I will not be stopped!!

@kaylafyfe_ I found the festival process deeply demoralizing. It mostly seemed like a great way to throw money into a hole. But I always had a good time when I went to a festival with a film. It wasn't because people were watching my movies, but I felt like I was part of a community.
English

@outlawvern Either way, somebody was also paid to build and animate those CG models (who are almost certainly not scans of actors) and to composite them into the shot. The only problem I have with it is that someone believed it was "good enough"
English

@outlawvern It seems like a misunderstanding of filmmaking. My guess is that row was originally full of white, human extras who were paid for their time, or it was left empty for some reason that became necessary to fix once they saw the shot in context.
English

I'm curious about the premise of this tweet. There's a fight against stealing actors' likenesses without compensation; this implies it's also about protecting jobs for extras. What about the CG armies of LORD OF THE RINGS, cardboard cutouts filling sports stadiums, etc.?

It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter our latest offer. (1/11)

@katiehinsen @CoastingAlong I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I loved the survey, but it's not worth that kind of stress.
English

@KyleGilman @CoastingAlong yes @KyleGilman that appears to largely be the case based on who appeared to be getting upset with me.

For the past 7 years, every October, I have administered the only comprehensive study of the US #postproduction industry.
This year I have decided to not do the survey. (thread) 1/6
English

@CoastingAlong @katiehinsen Yeah, it's ridiculous, especially since from my memory of the data trends, they don't have much to worry about.
