CCAP members and staff met this week with U.S. Sens. Dave McCormick and John Fetterman during the National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference to discuss key issues impacting Pennsylvania counties. NACo's Legislative Conference welcomed nearly 2,000 county leaders from across the country to address the federal priorities shaping local communities. Participants engaged in dynamic policy discussions, gained insights on emerging national issues, and connected directly with administration officials, members of Congress, and key congressional staff to advance county interests at the federal level.

Pennsylvania counties are responsible for conducting property reassessments to ensure that assessed values accurately reflect current market conditions. While state law establishes the overall framework, counties retain authority over the administration, funding, and timing of reassessments. As a result, the decision to undertake a countywide reassessment is a local determination, guided by market data, statistical analysis, and operational readiness. In some counties, assessments reflect relatively current market values, while in others they date back several decades, in some cases to the 1960s. With targeted state support, counties can modernize assessment systems, promote greater consistency statewide, and ensure they have the resources necessary to conduct timely, fair, and uniform reassessments. Pennsylvania counties operate 61 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), whose trained staff handle call-taking and dispatch, triage emergencies and coordinate response to keep residents safe every day. When you dial 911, counties answer the call.
