Speeding was the leading contributing factor in car crashes across Texas in 2024. Because of this and our ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe, we partnered with @TxDOT's Operation Slow to launch an educational and enforcement campaign addressing the dangers of speeding and aggressive driving behaviors, especially along the I-35 corridor. We are pleased to report that through these efforts, along with other traffic safety initiatives we have implemented, we have seen a significant reduction in major crashes that result in injury compared to this time last year. We all know that driving along I-35 (and some other roads) can feel a bit like you're driving in a Formula 1 race. While F1 speeds make for great entertainment on a sunny September day, it can be extremely dangerous on a highway with other vehicles on the road. In our ongoing efforts to create safer roads in Kyle, we have partnered with @TxDOT for Operation Slow to target aggressive and erratic driving behaviors (aka those who think they're racecar drivers). This initiative will be in addition to our existing proactive patrols and traffic enforcement to ensure that everyone driving to and through Kyle gets to their destination safely. If you see reckless or aggressive drivers on the road, please report them to the Kyle Police Department immediately. #drivelikeatexan

Please help us locate Sandy Reynolds Thies, a 63-year-old woman who is currently missing. She was last seen on Wednesday, April 23rd, around 7:00 p.m. in the 200 block of Claudell Drive. At that time, she was wearing a red short-sleeved shirt and blue shorts. She is approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 130 pounds. Nearly 30 lives have been lost due to traffic collisions in the Austin area since the beginning of the year. It is our collective responsibility to prevent further tragedies like this from happening. To do our part, we have partnered with the Hays County Sheriff's Office and Precincts 2 and 5 of the Hays County Constable's Office to launch a traffic safety initiative to keep our roadways for everyone. Our focus will be educating our community about safe driving practices and addressing issues such as speeding, distracted driving, tailgating, illegal lane changes, and other reckless behaviors that put lives at risk. Throughout this initiative, we will emphasize that the speed limit along I-35 is 70 mph, and driving above this can be dangerous, especially when combined with any other reckless driving behaviors. We have to admit, it feels great taking home the championship trophy after winning the KPD vs KFD flag football game 52-40. Overall, it was a good game played with our fellow first responders that brought our community together and successfully collected four barrels of food donations for the Hays County Food Bank. We want to extend a BIG thank you to the Kyle Law Enforcement Association, the Kyle Professional Firefighter Association, and all the players for organizing and hosting this event. We appreciate all of our spectators who showed up to support a great cause, as well as your local police officers and firefighters. Early Monday morning, our officers discovered over 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine during a routine traffic stop. Fifty-year-old Michael Rentz was pulled over for multiple traffic violations on Veterans Drive. During the stop, one of our officers observed a clear plastic bag containing a crystalline substance in plain view inside the vehicle. Further investigation revealed additional items consistent with drug distribution, and Rentz was subsequently charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony. To our Kyle residents, please be assured that we will not tolerate dangerous drugs like this in our community. Our officers are committed to keeping you safe and drugs like these off the streets.

As many of you know, tax season can increase our vulnerability to financial crimes. It is our goal to make sure that you are educated and empowered if you ever find yourself in these tricky and unfortunate situations.   Due to the urgent nature of tax filing, people often feel pressured to act quickly when contacted by these criminals. It also doesn't help that scammer tactics continue to evolve and become more sophisticated. They may seem legitimate because they already have most of your personal information or use life-like AI voices in their communications with you, but don't let the time-sensitivity or convincing AI resources deceive you.   Common financial scams to be aware of during this time of year include:   - Impersonation of IRS agents - Phishing emails that request financial information - Fake tax relief services   Here are a few things you can do to protect yourself:   - Verify any suspicious communications by contacting the IRS directly - Avoid sharing personal or financial information over the phone - Regularly monitor your bank transactions and credit report   If you suspect you have encountered a financial scam, please report it to us immediately. If your financial information has been jeopardized, contact your bank or financial institution to discuss enhanced security measures to keep you and your money safe.

Another month of proudly protecting and serving the Kyle community. In February of 2025, our officers responded to 3,356 calls for service, which included: 155 traffic accidents 139 suspicious activity calls 134 reckless driving calls 81 welfare concern calls 80 assault calls These numbers do not account for all self-initiated service conducted by our officers to ensure safety of our community members at residences, businesses, or on the roadways. We are deeply saddened by the fatalities caused by all of the recent crashes on I-35 and hope these tragedies guide everyone to make smarter and safer choices while driving. The Kyle Police Department is investigating a fatal collision that occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. this morning on southbound I-35 near Yarrington Road. Flavia Arzate Gomez, a 50-year-old woman from Austin, had pulled over on the shoulder of the highway to fix a tarp on her vehicle. While she was stopped, 21-year-old Gabriella Saurette, of San Marcos, struck Gomez with her vehicle. Gomez was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Beth Smith. Upon arrival, Kyle Police officers observed signs of impairment from Saurette. She admitted to coming from 6th Street in Austin and consuming alcohol prior to the crash. Based on evidence of intoxication, Saurette was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing. A message to parents, The truth is, that most children don’t fully grasp just how risky substance use can be. That’s why it’s so important for parents to have safe and open conversations with their kids about drugs and alcohol, especially when it comes to potentially deadly substances like fentanyl. It needs to go beyond saying “Don’t do drugs”. We need to give them the tools to handle these tough situations. Whether it’s peer pressure or just trying to fit in, kids need to know how to stay safe, make smart choices, and say no when it matters most. Teaching kids how to be strong in the face of pressure helps them build confidence and resilience. When they know how to stand their ground, they’re much more likely to make the right call and avoid risky situations.
