Hon’ble CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon discussed traffic modalities on the Srinagar-Kargil highway with Div Com UT Ladakh. Following deliberations, two-way traffic between Minamarg and Sonamarg will be operational from May 14, 2026, replacing the alternate-day system.

CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon attended the final of the 1st Chiktan Premier League at Chiktan. Shakar Chiktan won the tournament, defeating United Dargo by just 1 run. CEC assured support for road connectivity, renovation of historic Chiktan Khar, and playground development.

Hon’ble CEC LAHDC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon met MoS for Minority Affairs, Fisheries & Animal Husbandry Shri George Kurian & discussed the potential of fisheries, pashmina value chain & early sanctioning of minority hostels in Kargil. MoS assured full support.

HCEC,LAHDC Kargil,Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon,today flagged off the caravan of Ladakhi pilgrims for Hajj 2026 from Hajj House,Srinagar and proceeded to Srinagar Airport to see them off and extended heartfelt prayers for the safe & spiritually fulfilling completion of the holy journey.

CEC requests with full hope & trust that Hon’ble PM Modi Ji, Hon’ble HM Amit Shah Ji & Hon’ble LG Ladakh Saxena Ji ensure immediate separate notification for Sankoo & Shakar Chiktan Shargole as new districts.

Kargil district has 80 villages remaining while Leh has 40. Kargil, given its population & geographic expanse, deserves greater administrative relief. Village allocation among newly created districts appears arbitrary & lacks transparent justification.

CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, welcomes creation of new districts but expresses strong resentment over exclusion of Sankoo Sub-Division & Shakar Chiktan Shargole Sub-Division. This exclusion is deeply unfortunate & cannot be overlooked.
