@thebaldgeek I am getting a lot of false detections but it's okay. I know the local bird's around and their sounds.

@LBoergerding I did the exact same thing. I also tried one other for about 12 hours - sorry, forgot which - but it was not great, and so am glad I ended up with BirdNET-Go.

Slightly off-topic thread (hey, it still has flying things in it). My wife wanted to learn more about bird calls and the birds that match them, and to teach them to our grandson. So I loaded up BirdNET-Go on a Pi and stuck a microphone out the window. github.com/tphakala/birdn… 1/

Slip the large heatshrink over the element, and you are done. Just test it out. And sure enough, after restarting the BirdNET-Go docker container from their nice GUI, you can see the bird calls show up. Very clear. No question, it has greater sensitivity and high-frequency clarity. 6/

@thebaldgeek Do you get separate feeds for sbs from that stations? I am running sniffer for a while now.

Just got our Southern California station up and running on Iridium-sniffer. Circles are spot beams, dots are aircraft. 4 ground stations now feeding data to tbgmap.airframes.io

updating the Iridium ACARS rabbit hole… here is the pipeline that extracts aircraft position directly from message content. No Doppler. No multilateration. No satellite tracking. Just parsing what the aircraft is already transmitting. Repo: github.com/mebrown47/irid…

@LBoergerding @ElbaSatGuy If you are close to the aircraft you get uplinks as well, they're within the same frequency band. I usually get around 20 to 30 uplink messages per day compared to many hundred downlink messages. Military uplinks often contain position reports so are useful

@thebaldgeek Thats low range for FT8 tbh, what antenna do you run?

FT8 Gridtracker2 help please. I just want to see what stations (with lines) my station has heard. I will rant about why this is harder than it needs to be at a later time, but for now, what button do I click? (The dotted lines are animated. I am the yellow dot in upper Idaho).

Ok, seems that the only way to see what stations you can hear is via TX. I am just using an SDR, so no Tx, so no lines. I was trying to find a way to judge my antenna setup for HFDL ACARS, thought FT8 might be a quick way to see improvements. No so much.

Entire Iridium ACARS pipeline now runs in a single binary, including optional advanced libacars decoding and JSON output. What’s the preferred (optional) path for feeding dashboards? Direct JSON stream, MQTT, or something else?

There’s been lots of changes, to include to the map. But yes, there’s multiple output options that keep compatibility with acars.py if you wanted to use that or direct into airframe io how I was explained it needed to be (I tested with my own airframes account). Will likely do a video on it tonight. Also, Airspy settings could be passed via soapy variables but I’ll look at maybe a native way.

@cemaxecuter ITS WORKING!!!! ITS WORKING!! Peak #TwitterRano right here. This is what goes on to track aircraft that no one sees or cares about. (The work, they care plenty about having access to the data - don't get me started).

Went and got the KCOE Iridium / VDL2 station computer. (Still raining, can't retrieve the antennas or put them up). Let's see about this new Iridium thingo @cemaxecuter on a Beelink. (I have a strong dislike for the Pi5).

@lambdaprog do you know something about newest builds of airspy_adsb decoder? I guess some people would like it. I am still running Buster but if I have to upgrade it, I would like to use Trixie.
