and “at the minimum it should set out something that that can reasonably be described as an independent review, but that minimises the spending/legislative/other risks that a review creates”. This cannot possibly be described as independent. A new #LoanCharge review is needed.

HMRC really need to have a policy on how they deal with the victims of fraud - because the currently policy of - send them threatening letters demanding money - can't really be right in my view.

A very important article by @michaelsavage in @ObserverUK on the tragic reality that 8 people facing the draconian #LoanCharge have taken their own lives. Families of victims have confirmed that the Loan Charge led to the suicide. HMRC comments trying to obscure this are shameful

Compare and contrast today to #LoanChargeScandal. Loan charge victims were doing 70 on the motorway, and the limit got retrospectively changed to 60 and everyone got fined. Here Paterson was doing 90 on the motorway and the limit was upped to 100 just to accommodate him. Fair?
