At 12 years tenure Jennifer Brainwaitee was in charge when the listed sheltered housing of Macintosh Court was comprehensively vandalised at a cost of over £2.5 mil. So "excellent" were the roof repairs that they have all been redone. Great record to boast about.

Here is a photograph of the Queen on a royal tour of housing schemes in Stepney in 1962, looking down from the 17th floor of Wickham House on the LCC's Stifford Estate.

This is where I grew up. Post-war purpose built council housing. It's Achilles Street - bang in the middle of New Cross. Like 100s of other 'estates' across London, it's under threat of demolition. It's the most socially and environmentally regressive policy happening atm.
