Donovan Principals

If a student has a negative balance they will not be able to purchase an ice cream even if they bring their $1 for ice cream.  Students are only allowed to purchase 1 ice cream and are not permitted to buy an ice cream for a friend. We hope to have a great first ice cream Friday

Tomorrow is the highly anticipated first ice cream Friday!  We wanted to send out a few reminders to hopefully make the day go smoothly for everyone.  A student must have money on their account to purchase an ice cream.

Have you ever bought cookie dough from a Donovan student? If so, THANK YOU! By supporting the fall cookie dough sale you helped the Donovan PTO raise funds for the new additions to the Donovan playground. Today students were able to play on the new structure and Gaga Pit.

Our lost and found is starting to get some missing items. Be sure to put your child's name on anything you think he or she may take off during recess. Your student's name on their lunch box and water bottle is also recommended.

Students in Mrs. Spence and Mrs. Blaisdell’s classes took a trip around the world as they learned all about different holidays! They learned about Christmas in Australia, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Hanukkah, and La Befana in Italy. They enjoyed playing dreidel and making Rangoli art.

The students in Mrs. Bittman’s math class had to answer 10 larger multiplication problems to unlock the codes to program the Ozobots. If they answered the problems correctly, the Ozobot made it to the finish line (with some fancy moves along the way). #HourOfCode

The Character Effect strength for the week is KINDNESS. This week, students will be looking at ways they are helpful and nice to others.

The Donovan Lost and Found has been organized and moved to the front of the building. Check it out before or after conferences.

The 20th annual Pumpkin Drop has begun and we already have 1 survivor!

Cookie Dough pick-up is Wednesday, October 26th from 4-8 in the Donovan Cafeteria. The event entrance will not be available until 4:15 because of bus traffic during student dismissal.

2/2 In addition, they have been working hard on paragraph writing. They created a persuasive pumpkin paragraph trying to persuade the reader to pick their pumpkin from the pumpkin patch! 🎃

1/2 The students in Mrs. Blaisdell’s and Mrs. Spence’s classes have been busy working on adjectives, nouns, and verbs. They played a fun “trashketball” game to review these parts of speech. 🎃

Students on the Yarbrough / Elliott team have been learning about solids, liquids, and gases. They used Froot Loops to show how the molecules act differently depending on it being a solid, liquid, or gas. They discussed that a molecule changes as the state of matter changes.

This afternoon Donovan students and staff participated in safety drills. We simulated the Run (walk) and Hide parts of our safety plan.

This week at Donovan, we are learning about Perseverance as we continue to learn more about our strengths using The Character Effect.

This week the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District presented “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow “ to our 4th graders. Students learned about the life of Ohio animals that have disappeared, are endangered, or are threatened. They were also able to touch some animal skins.

This week's Character Effect focus is on Self-Control.
