This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.

Hey, you -- yeah, with the ADHD and the cool projects! You know how all of those projects are, like, 80% done? And how you can't figure out how to get them over the line? And how frustrating that is? The following thread contains an infohazard, proceed at your peril! ;)

The passing of @aloria brought up some feels, not that I thought I'd gotten past, just that I thought were "at bay". So I wrote her a letter to let off some of the steam. Maybe someone else wants to read it. Dear Aloria, Hey, it's rand0h. Been a long time since we chatted. That's the nature of our world though isn't it? It's wonderful and worrisome all the same time. We can lose track of friends we meet for literal years but next con we find ourselves at it's like just minutes have passed. Before I knew the name Aloria, I met you as Kelly. I was just a pup in the infosec space. As it happens, you were close with one of my oldest friends in the world. We partied at Chris's house a couple of times. At least once I said goodbye to your slumbering form as I passed the couch on my way out the front door the next morning. That was a good party and I thought you were pretty cool right off the bat. You were one of the first hackers I ever met, before I ever dared to call myself one. I remember you as quiet but incredibly sweet. You were one of of my inspirations when I started to open up about my own mental health struggles. Your influence was in everything I did and everything I said to try and take the stigma off getting the help I/we needed. I hope I told you that at least once. I remember exactly what I was doing when someone showed me @sec_reactions for the first time. I think I flew through the entire backlog in the span of an hour. I was just a baby analyst, in my first real security job, sitting in my home office cackling like a mental patient. It helped take the edge off the stabbing feelings of imposter syndrome in those early years. A few years later, you'd let me help curate the shitposts on the twitter feed. Also, I get to say I worked @SummerC0n with you if only that one year. Badges of honor I'll cherish forever. Whenever I heard your name, in chatroom's and at cons (copious amounts of both), it was always spoken with respect and with love. If I knew nothing else about you, that would be enough. I wish I knew you better but I feel like I won the lottery having known you at all. I hope you can rest now. In a place where whatever took you from us, no longer has sway. It's people like you that make me desperate to believe in an afterlife, because then you could see the legacy you've left behind. When it comes to my own story, you are a main character in my evolution as a hacker and as a human. A legion of people feel a little emptier today, an irreplaceable piece of us as a collective is gone. However, I'd rather have a little emptiness than the alternative of never having been able to call you a friend. You were loved then, you are loved now, you will be loved forever. -rand0h

This tweet is for a specific type of person - especially young and hungry ones. I’m talking to the ones who jump in and quietly save things whenever their teammates and seniors drop the ball. Sometimes when not too much is on the line, you have to just let them fail.

Fun fact: It will appear that many core Windows files are not signed. But they are, through catalog signing which is more computationally efficient. Microsoft just never put that validation logic into the GUI. You can use @markrussinovich SigCheck to do it if you need to.

The richest man on the planet, and possibly in history, zeroed out a black woman professor because he felt her anger and her words were not acceptable and he felt he was the right person to put her in her place. Says quite a lot.

When it comes to DFIR, Reverse Engineering, and performing security analysis in general, there's a number of useful, hidden gems out there. Here's some sites which you may, or may not know about, including some of the best in the industry👇
