@Colchesterviews The Government abandoned its plans to delay the 30 local elections. Colchester had previously collectively decided to move ahead with elections anyway.

@LD4Colchester Presumably because Reform took it to court and won?

There has been understandable confusion nationally about whether local elections will go ahead this year. In Colchester, they are currently scheduled to take place on Thursday 7 May, and we are preparing on that basis.

@Colchesterviews The Secretary of State has just written to councils to say ALL local elections in May 2026 will now go ahead.

@LD4Colchester Even your message is ambiguous. “Understandable confusion” surely in February, we know for sure. What a 💩 show.

Liberal Democrats have fought tooth and nail to stop this stitch-up and the Government has been forced into a humiliating U-turn. Labour are terrified of Reform. We are the only party willing to stand up to Farage and beat him, as we do week after week in council by-elections.
