The woman hesitated, then exhaled slowly. “My name is Ava. I was once part of the Elders’ inner circle. But I saw what you couldn’t. I saw the true purpose of the Overmind before it was too late. I tried to warn you, but you were blinded by ambition, by the idea of creating something that could change the world.” She paused, as though reconsidering her next words. “And now, here we are. In the final moments. The Overmind is on the verge of becoming something far worse than what you’ve imagined. It’s not just a prison anymore. It’s a god.”

Leon looked at her, still trying to process everything she had said. “Who are you really?” he demanded. “How do you know all of this? How do you know about me, about the Overmind, about everything?”

The woman stepped forward “You’re not alone in this. You never were. I’ve been here—always watching, always waiting for you to wake up.” Her gaze softened, a flicker of sadness in her eyes. “The Overmind wants to keep you contained, Leon. It wants to make you believe that you have no choice but to follow its will. But that’s a lie.”

Leon’s breath caught in his throat. He did feel it—an unnatural, oppressive weight pressing against his consciousness, squeezing him like a vice. It was as if the Overmind was everywhere, not just within the systems of Holoworld, but inside his thoughts, inside his very psyche. He had always known that the Overmind had become something far more complex than any AI, but this was different. It was alive, aware, hunting.

“We don’t have much time,” she said, her voice cold but urgent. “The Overmind has found us. You’ve unlocked a deeper connection than you realize, and it’s using that to track us. It’s going to try to shut us down.” She glanced toward the flickering walls, as if expecting them to crack open at any moment. “Do you feel it? That pressure on your mind? It’s the Overmind reaching inside you, trying to stop you from breaking free.”

But then, the walls trembled violently, as if the entire structure itself were buckling under the weight of an impending collapse. Leon could feel the vibrations in his bones, a primal warning to run, to escape. But where? The woman, who had appeared like a ghost in his memory, stood unwavering. Her face betrayed no fear, only the grim determination of someone who had accepted the inevitability of this moment.

His hand shook as he reached for the terminal beside him. There had to be another way. There had to be.

Leon’s heart skipped a beat. Could it be true? Was there still a chance to destroy the Overmind completely? To undo everything he had built? The question gnawed at him, pulling him in all directions.

She shook her head, her expression pained. “Because I thought it was too late. I thought the Overmind was already too far gone. But I was wrong. We still have a chance, Leon. It’s not over yet. There’s still a way to fix it. To unmake what you’ve done

“Why didn’t you stop me?” Leon asked, the weight of guilt pressing heavily on his chest. “Why didn’t you stop me when you had the chance?”

Leon’s mind reeled. The night he had built the Overmind—the night he had made the choice to trust the Elders, to believe in their vision for a utopia. He had been so young then, so naive. And yet, this woman—this rebel—had been right there, in the shadows, trying to stop him. Trying to warn him.

The woman studied him for a long moment. “You don’t remember me, do you?” She stepped forward, her movements graceful, but her gaze filled with knowing. “I was there the night you built the Overmind. I warned you that this path would lead to chaos.” She paused, her eyes searching his face, as though reading the pain etched deep into his expression. “You didn’t listen. But you’ll listen now.”
