#ThisDayInHistory Today, Tuesday February 17 is the anniversary of the commissioning of USS Lexington (CV-16)! This ship entered Navy service on February 17, 1943, and remained an important ship within the US fleet until her decommissioning in 1991.

The USS Lexington Museum will have a delayed opening today, January 26th. The museum will be open from 11am-5pm due to inclement weather. The museum will resume regular business hours tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th, unless weather does not permit.

On Friday, November 21st, the USS Lexington Museum will be closing at 3PM. Regular museum hours will resume on, Saturday, November 22nd, 9AM - 5PM.

Today, we take this time to honor and thank all the veterans who have served. The USS Lexington Museum will be holding a celebratory ceremony at 2PM in Hangar Bay II. All veterans, active duty, and reserve members of the U.S. military will be honored for their service.

#thisdayinhistory November 5th, 1944, off the coast of Luzon, USS Lexington (CV-16) was hit by her first kamikaze attack. Fires raged, but within 20 minutes the crew had them under control and flight ops resumed. 50 sailors were lost and 100+ wounded.

USS Lexington Museum is not impacted by the federal government shutdown and is open to visitors. As a nonprofit, self-funded organization, the Museum operates independently and continues to offer full access to all exhibits, tours, and experiences aboard the “Blue Ghost.”
