@Scouser_Les_LFC It’s Anti-football. Don’t pretend to be a possession based coach and start coaching the likes of that. If we were playing good football that would be one thing but to serve us up the crap we are watching and then do that from a centre kick is just an extra kick in the balls!

There were loads of bad moments yesterday. Conceding 2 goals from our own throw ins either side of HT is possibly the worst. But that kicking for touch at the kick off is something i never want to see again. Are we that poorly coached that we haven't got..

@LFC_EmlynTheRed @CF_Compss So you're ok with us being mediocre only to keep an English or Scouser?? Well sorry to burst your bubble But in 25 years, our academy only produced 2 TOP Scousers and their names are Stevie G and TTA. Sorry but I want my club to win trophies. Not just keep mediocre players

@sojitweets @GooalMouth I mean it’s a fact that players left, one of them could be considered a “key” player. The other fact is that we have 7-10 players playing way below their best, some of which are still getting worse and worse

A very popular take on here that I will never get on board with is the idea that Liverpool winning the league had nothing to do with Slot, yet this season had everything to do with Slot. Last season was his tactics, and he inherited a team which was allegedly due to go BACKWARDS because Klopp left. It was his tactics, his man management and his philosophy that won us the league. The only thing Klopp can get praised for is that SOME of the signings that helped us get there were from his mini stint as a silent Sports director. But Klopp left us, and it corresponded in a title-chasing collapse, so how the hell does he get any praise for the following season?? Slot was the one who lost players he didnt want to lose that were crucial to helping him win the league title. It will also be Slot that is sacrificed for failing to get the rebuild firing as quickly as possible. But you cannot say last season had nothing to do with him and this season has everything to do with him. You all would have protected Klopp with your life if we had the same season under his leadership. I guarantee that FSG and Pep Linjders would have been to blame.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Trey Nyoni had an incredible international break with England U19s. In 250 minutes: - 58 (!) passes made into the final third - 12 interceptions - 11/14 defensive duels won - 30 recoveries - 10 progressive runs Played as a deep-lying playmaker, the deepest midfielder for England and absolutely dictated everything in the games I’ve watched. Liverpool have a special player 💎

@LFCApproved The Salah thing is just an unwanted sideshow, what’s happening with the team is not about this. If a different manager was in place they would still need to manage a very difficult declining Salah situation.

I won’t blame it on him. However, ultimately it stems from him. Salah & Slot’s disagreement split this club and ever since it’s been a battle to put back together. He’s not helped himself, the players have given up with him and pathetically given up with playing for this club in that period.

@jonnieivandoyle Look at PSG’s aggregate score against Chelsea. Look at the disconnect between the players, manager, fans and the clubs hierarchy. We generally only do big things when we are all together. I’m not quite sure how the clubs owners don’t know this after 10yrs in charge!

@LenovoGuru Hughes is keeping Slot in the job! I’ve enjoyed the debate, we just disagree. I agree on the conditions not being ideal but look at what he is delivering. The momentum to his exit is now unstoppable, the fanbase is divided and that usually means only one outcome. Take care 👍🏻

He played that role last season because the conditions allowed it. And it worked. Those conditions don’t exist this year. The squad makeup has changed, the supporting profiles aren’t there, and the structure around him isn’t the same. That’s not opinion, that’s just reality. On Slot, the in-game management point is being judged without context. He hasn’t had a stable XI all season. Not for months, weeks, or even days. The best teams are built on a consistent core with rotation around it. We’ve had the opposite. Constant injuries, players overplayed, and a squad that’s thin on the right kind of quality whilst also having a compromised base from a heavily disrupted pre season. That’s not an excuse. That’s science. Teams need a proper pre season to have a proper season. It is NOT a ‘can do without’ or ‘train later on for that disrupted time’. There is a lack of viable options to play. Is the coach faultless? No. He hasn’t found a robust fallback system, but given all of the above? I don’t blame him. He’s literally having to make do with the mess in front of him right now. As for “Slot In or Out” — I’m neither. The core problems sit above the coach. Recruitment has to fix the squad. Once that’s sorted, everything else stabilises and this binary nonsense disappears. But if you’re asking who I back right now? It’s the coach. He’s shown a clearer track record of winning than Hughes has of building a functioning squad here. And right now, the recruitment has been a mess. My weighting for responsibility is:- 1. External Factors - 35% 2. Recruitment - 33% 3. Coach - 22% 4. Players - 20% We’re unlikely to have a tragedy literally kick the season off in 26/27, recruitment needs to pull the finger out. That should stabilise the base for the season, and allow things to be normal. The club can use a bit of normal.

The last hour today was horrific, but were there many Slot out shouts in the first 40 minutes? Was it Slot who couldn't put Mo and Hugo's guilt edge chances away? Was it Slot that dived in like a clumsy idiot to give the penalty away? Just saying. The players get a pass.

@LenovoGuru You think coaching, I think purple patch. Neither of us have enough facts on this point so it’s just opinion. Personally I think Gapko is back at his level this year and should be just a squad player. Slot’s in game management has been shocking this season. Are you Slot in?

Agree on the latter point. On the former, I don’t think it was a purple patch, it was a profiling success. Gakpo is fundamentally a second striker off the left, not a touchline winger providing width. When used like that, you get the best of him. But that only works within the right structure. He’s an able part in a system like last season’s, but you can’t recreate that without a deeper playmaker, a high-pressing forward, and Salah at a high level. We don’t have two of those three profiles, and that’s where the issue lies. That’s recruitment, not coaching. Especially when those gaps were known, and by all accounts, ones the coach actually asked for. Which is why I keep coming back to the weighting of responsibility: External factors — 35% Recruitment — 33% Coach — 22% Players — 10% Slot isn’t blameless. He hasn’t found a robust fallback when everything breaks down. But he’s also been handed an imbalanced squad, a compromised pre-season base, then hit with injuries and natural decline through the year. All while the players operating under constant expectation after a seismic event rocked their heads in the summer. And recruitment didn’t help him either. Not reinforcing in January, when it was obvious it was needed, just compounded the problem.

@LenovoGuru I guess for the same reasons Slot can’t get a tune out of Gapko now, he had a purple patch. I didn’t say it was Klopp’s game plan that won the league. I think he can take a little credit and Slot can take a lot of credit for it. Slot gave Klopp a little credit so it’s not news!

If Klopp is taking credit for it, why didn’t he get better performances from Gakpo? And why did he use him as a False 9 for 22 games in 23/24 and as a centre midfielder for another 6? Gakpo has seen a drop off because he’s being asked to play as a left winger, because ding ding - Hughes sold Diaz and decided not to replace him. Despite the coach asking. How is the Double 10 in my head? Did Diaz play centrally with Szoboszlai OOP or not? People call it a False 9, but he was pressing ALONGSIDE Szobo OOP and then wide left IP. I love Klopp, but it wasn’t his gameplan that won the League. The only coach who deserves credit for the 24/25 League title is Arne Slot. If Jurgen Klopp could’ve won the League title with that squad, he would’ve done it in 23/24. He did not.

@LenovoGuru Klopp can definitely take some of the credit for Gapko’s season, he bought him and developed him. Gapko has also seen a massive drop off under Slot’s tenure more recently. Double 10 is in your head. I’ve said Slot deserves credit for the title. I stand by all my comments.

Did Klopp ever get that level output from Gakpo? Did Klopp ever play Szobo and Diaz as double 10s? Did Slot have the same depth that Klopp had in 18/19, 19/20, 21/22? You talk about not using youth and the squad, here’s the players that Slot didn’t use:- - Endo - Elliott - Chiesa - Morton Everyone else clocked 1200+ minutes. Even Quansah. This idea that he didn’t use the squad is turgid and wrong. He had a small set of trusted players he could rely on. That’s a recruitment failing, not a coaching failure. In the 24/25 season, LFC played 6 League games in March and April. They won 5 and lost 1. They played 2 Champions League games against the best team in Europe. They won 1 and lost 1. They played one League Cup match and lost. That’s a 66% win rate. They then won the League and went on a break. The games thereafter are irrelevant. 24/25 tailed off because of fatigue. Small squad, heavy minutes, legs going late. The base was there, it just got depleted over time. That’s why performances held for most of the year and dropped off late. But they won. This season is different. The base was never properly built in the first place. That’s deficit, not depletion. The symptoms can look similar. Tight games, drop-offs, lack of control. But they don’t come from the same root. If you treat them as the same problem, you’ll keep coming to the wrong conclusion. Don’t. Or admit you’re engaging in a bad faith argument on purpose and have no intention to realise your entire thesis is fundamentally flawed.

@LenovoGuru Give you 1, 2 & 4, I’m not having the rest & point 8 referencing the other 7 😂. 14 players is a nonsense, Slot ignored the squad & youth, he has to own the fatigue. We have been crap since March 25 & steadily getting worse. Did the title & deserves credit but has serious flaws.

His ‘little something’ was:- 1. Playing Trent as a half space RB after Klopp stopped doing it in 23/24, and running all the buildup through him. Klopp almost ran him as a free roaming RB, whilst Slot reinstated positional discipline but with the freedom to playmake from that side of the pitch. 2. Playing Robbo deeper than Klopp ever did. 3. Pulling an all timer in fitness and form from Konate, who was repeatedly injured before that. 4. Using Gravenberch as a 6, who got something like 1,000 minutes in 23/24. 5. Playing Gakpo LM out of possession and as an inside forward in possession. 6. Platforming Salah who had a generational season, even though he’d lost a good yard of pace. 7. Putting Diaz and Szobo as double 10s more or less to compensate for the lack of press OOP from Gakpo and Salah. 8. Winning the bloody League doing 1-7, even though the club didn’t sign anyone for him barring a geriatric from Italy who kept getting injured. Sounds like a fucking lot. And those principles were consistent all season. The reason we started to flag in March intensity wise is because he had roughly 14 odd players he could properly rely on all season, and had to overplay them in order to win the League. Arsenal have a full 22 man senior squad this year and they’re pulling players from international duty because the majority of them are goosed. It wasn’t Slot’s principles skewing away from Klopp that resulted in the squad not being ‘as good’ as they were from August till February. It was just good old fatigue. Nothing new at all.
Emlyn@LFC_EmlynTheRed

@GooalMouth I agree, I think he added a little something to a Klopp coached team. However as the pendulum has swung more away from Klopp’s principles and towards Slot’s (noticeable since March 25) there has been a steady decline (with some spikes in between).
