The football officiating community is saddened by the passing of Ken Green. Ken's on field contributions spanned over 5 decades and his leadership and mentorship continued when he stepped off the field. His mentorship included officials who advanced to the CFL and USports. 1/3

@bstone76 @footballzebras It's a dumb rule. The Bengals didn't pick up the original first down yardage.

Rule on the punt: Ball remains a kick after the block. When it's touched downfield, it's a muff but not possessed. It's STILL a kick at that point, because it hasn't been possessed. Bengals get the ball due to the muff, but since it's a kick beyond the line, they can't advance

This technique, called "shaving", where the motion man takes a step or two forward prior to the snap, was brought to the attention of teams by Walt Anderson that this is an illegal motion penalty. Called twice tonight.
