K/1’s were inspired by a new favourite story! We imagined what might start talking to us after eating a magic candy in our #storyworkshop. One student had a forest mushroom ask their character, “can you tell people to stop picking me and my friends?” @IrwinParkSchool

K/1’s enjoyed exploring the ways Numicon shapes could be used to think about CGI ‘compare’ problems. Ex. “You have 16 marbles and I have 9. How many more do you have?” #BCreggiomath #CGImath #westvannumeracynetwork @IrwinParkSchool

K/1’s were curious about why what we see in the sky as a ‘half moon’ is actually called a ‘quarter moon’? We explored this by playing with the idea of making 2 & 4 parts first with flat circles, then spheres, moving between 2D & 3D representations. #BCReggioMath @IrwinParkSchool

We prepared our leaves by taking advice from the author in one of our new favourite books. The children loved reconnecting with their special leaf after 5 days of living in the glycerin/water solution. We are excited to create with them once they are dry! @IrwinParkSchool

We loved celebrating #TakeMeOutsideDay with our big buddies this morning. Thank you to @alexbleim for leading our land acknowledgment as we gathered together in our special place. We are so grateful to live, work, and play on this land. @IrwinParkSchool

That’s a wrap! What a show! Two performances of MATILDA Jr by the students of @IrwinParkSchool with a Grade 7 cast and crew. Such a great way to welcome parents back in and end the year. Congrats also to teachers Ms. Kozak and @msj9king who led the way! #Matilda #westvaned

We worked with our buddies at the beach to create land art, knowing it would be in a spot where the ocean could take back the materials we used. As always, we discovered incredible things along the way: “look! Nature made a smile!” @alexbleim @IrwinParkSchool

What shapes live in our shoe print? Why does snow fall in some areas and not others? “Maybe the trees protect it like an umbrella.” So grateful for the snowfall this morning! We also noticed it could be a great writing tool. @IrwinParkSchool #BCReggioMath

We worked in partners and traced our shadows, then compared our actual height to the shadow. We tried very hard to be respectful of our partner by staying perfectly still while they were tracing. #BCReggiomath #kindergarten @IrwinParkSchool

After observing butterflies in the classroom, we created flowers from a ‘bird’s eye view’ then tried drinking nectar with our own ‘proboscis’. We also noticed the butterfly ‘tongues’ become a spiral when not in use! #BCReggiomath #kindergarten @IrwinParkSchool

We began an investigation into measurement by trying to match different birds to their nests. We quickly realized it was hard to do without something in the picture that helps us compare the size! Which one is ‘about’ the size of a key? #BCReggiomath @lkmaclean @IrwinParkSchool
