Today is the first day of LGBT History Month LGBT+ people have always been part of our societies, but often their stories are hidden and go untold. This month is an opportunity to celebrate those stories and continue to campaign for progress.

On #HumanRightsDay2025 - everyone has the right to be treated equally, fairly, with dignity & respect and that includes all trans and non binary people who have the right as per equalities legislation to identify in their chosen gender and not be disrespected by anyone. @LGBTLD

As I’ve always said - being open and honest about who you are and fighting any #Shame #Sigma or #abuse has been my core motto ever since I was diagnosed in June 2004. This will be my 23rd #WorldAIDSDay as an HIV+ individual and I’m proud to be standing by what I believe in today!

In the meantime, over a hundred thousand are living with HIV in the UK still, and thousands are thought to be infected but unaware. We have work to do to achieve the world we know is possible - thank you to everyone helping us get there. (2/2) #WorldAIDSDay2025

Today is #WorldAIDSDay. We have come a long way since the horrors of the 1980s, which triggered a wave of homophobia which has its echoes today. HIV is now routinely treatable and for the first time there is the prospect of a world without AIDS too. (1/2)

In 2023 nearly 108,000 people received HIV care in the UK, showing progress. This World AIDS Day, we’re reminded there’s more to do as around 5,000 people remain undiagnosed. I met with the APPG on HIV, AIDS and Sexual Health to discuss raising awareness and expanding prevention.

Thanks to @mariecgoldman, @cajardineMP, @LizBarkerLords and all the other MPs and Peers working on this. It's vital to keep up the hard work, especially now an end to AIDS is within sight. (Marie isn't on X any more, but her remarks are below.)

@mariecgoldman: "Imagine being turned away from a loo, hospital, or cinema for “not looking female enough”. The leaked EHRC guidance could do just that. Along with my LD colleagues, I’ve written to the Minister calling for new, inclusive guidance that protects everyone’s rights."

Thank you for this, @mariecgoldman, and to the dozens of @LibDems MPs who have already signed her letter. We've been hearing distressing accounts of this sort of exclusion happening already. The EHRC guidance needs to be rejected and rewritten if it's not good enough.

I was honoured to unveil a plaque for Sam Green, the first openly gay politician to be elected in the UK. He did so much for his community and his courage and dedication remind us to keep championing equality, respect and the rights of everybody. libdems.org.uk/news/article/a…

Elected in 1972 as the first openly gay politician in the UK, Sam Green served his community with commitment and courage, and we’re proud that Ed Davey was there to unveil a plaque in his honour.

Thank you, @JoshBabarinde for pressing the government on today's appalling leaked EHRC proposals. It is both sickening and predictable that they should leak on Transgender Day of Remembrance. Thank you for committing the @LibDems to standing up for our rights.

Today on Trans Day of Remembrance we remember those who have lost their lives to transphobic violence, and reflect on how we as a society can end this loss of life. Liberal Democrats will always stand up for the rights of everyone in the LGBT+ community.
