@chudson @newmike Agree strongly but I have to admit we’ve seen notable exceptions across our portfolios w/ distributed teams from the start. Some led by 1st time founders, others led by repeat founders. No clear pattern. But again these are a minority so I generally prefer non-distributed.

I am not neutral. I think a distributed team with people who don’t have prior experience working together makes the PMF journey significantly harder. Not impossible, but you’re making something already hard even harder but some people are honest about how they configured their teams and are clear about rhe trade offs.

I meet a lot of very early teams looking to raise money for product market fit discovery. Some are co-located, some are distributed, and some are in some other configuration . The question that has been most revealing and useful to me as an investor is to simply ask these teams why they’ve chosen that configuration and why they think it’s optimal. Consistently get interesting answers from people who are thoughtful.
