@JamesAshcroftMD @catiwat @CovidSurg Ideally you take it out and get someone else/a computer programme to do the data collection for you and case closed. Given the system we’re in though I think collaborative authorship is more beneficial to patients than my food chart QIP and should be rewarded as such

@LGourbault @catiwat @CovidSurg Interesting isn't it, if doctors aren't supposed to be doing this, then why argue for collaborative authorship to be rewarded in applications? If you reward collaborative authorship in medical applications, you are putting the nail in the coffin that data input is a doctor's job

I'm against rotating PGY1-5 doctors undertaking audits/QIPs. I see FY1s in hospital on days off grinding excel sheets - a total waste of time. Quality improvement needs to be a well thought out process driven by embedded QI experts, stakeholders, and clinicians with gravitas.

@catiwat @JamesAshcroftMD @CovidSurg I agree, I don’t think doctors time is best placed inputting data for these projects and would be better done by specialised teams. Unfortunately the system has somehow convinced us to carry out this labour for free with the promise of “better” jobs.

@LGourbault @JamesAshcroftMD @CovidSurg meh. i’m over collab research, good or bad. done all the xSurgs in my time. do we need harness big data to inform practice/guidelines? absolutely is getting trainees to collect the data for you for free the best way to go about it? don’t buy it

@catiwat @JamesAshcroftMD Like with everything you get good and bad collabs so you do have to choose. @CovidSurg was a great one to be part of. Only the necessary info gathered and the published work is now guiding national and international policy

@LGourbault @JamesAshcroftMD these have boomed to ridiculous proportions during covid. also lots of the data they’re asking for is quite time consuming to do properly. how about a national collaborative study called CovidSpam to see how many unpaid trainee hours have been spent on REDCap?
