Still thinking about @apar1984 pointing out (paraphrased): "People compare today to the Emergency, but Emergencies start and end. They are temporary by nature. This is a full-blown social transformation. There will be no end date to a Bill or a Law."

There's a pecking order of misinformation in India. The more indefensible the misinformation, the lower ranked the accounts spreading it. These "first line of liars" say something often & loudly enough to create a baseline narrative for higher level influencers to step in.

4. Recital 73 mandates that such restrictions must be necessary and proportionate. Such contouring of exemptions is absent in DPDP Bill.

purpose, scope, safeguards, categories of PD affected, risks to freedoms and rights of data principals, etc. DPDP doesn’t not have any such constraints. The problem isn’t with exemptions in DPDP Bill but with blanket, arbitrary, discretionary and unaccountable exemptions.

then, there’re 10 points. 2. Art. 23(1) does not provide for exemption from *all* provisions of GDPR, only some. DPDP empowers central govt to exempt its instrumentalities from *any and all* provisions. 3. Art. 23(2) ring fences the restrictions by requiring the law to define

Throughout the press conference and in the Parliament (both houses), IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said multiple times that DPDP has only 6 exemptions while GDPR has 16. Few points: 1. DPDP Bill bundles the exemptions using commas while Art. 23 individually lists them out. Even

What Lok Sabha passed is not our long-awaited citizens’ Data Protection Bill! It’s a Data Predators Bill — whereby Corporates use and misuse our data and privacy — without fear of criminal proceedings — and Govt increases surveillance, bullying. m.economictimes.com/prime/technolo…

So @TRAI is taking yet another look at #NetNeutrality. This time they're asking if apps should be required to pay telecom operators... and invest in network infrastructure. Why is this happening and what else is happening? Read on 👇

Indian Parliament is functioning like gully cricket at the moment. The popular guy is setting the rules. Whenever his team hits the ball out of the compound, its a six. But when the other team does the same, its an out. When the popular guy's team runs beyond the crease and bowls, the umpire ignores it. When the other team bowls properly, he declares it a no ball and gives six runs to the popular team. The popular guy's team always wins the toss because the coin has two heads and the toss happens before the opposing team even comes to play. Meanwhile, the captain doesn't even play. He just watches from the balcony and curses the opposing team for being shitty. And he has made sure the good players of the other team are either kicked out or not allowed to enter the premises.
