An estimated 1 million students in 125 countries on six continents participated in over 2,000 protests today to demand action to combat climate change. Teens held signs with slogans such as “if you don’t believe in science, why should you be mad that I’m skipping science class?”

The scene today in downtown Portland was one of protest, as well as unity. An estimated 1600 students gathered in front of Portland City Hall and spilled out onto 4th avenue to take part in the global Climate Strikes, spearheaded by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.
