"We want to work with people who are engaged" At #LIDW25, we explored what it takes to build a successful dispute resolution practice in a rapidly evolving landscape. Panellists discussed how firms can adapt, innovate and deliver value in an increasingly competitive market.

A #LIDW25 highlight: a keynote speech from Judge Joan Donoghue, Former Judge and President of the International Court of Justice. Judge Donoghue offers a compelling perspective on the responsibilities and ethical dilemmas facing dispute resolution professionals today.

At #LIDW25, leading disputes professionals debated how lawyers balance duties to clients, courts, and society, including the limits of conscientious objection. As Alex Chalk KC notes, when conscience and access to justice clash, “the one that wins out... is access to justice.”

“AI is really capturing the imagination of governments and regulators.” The next highlight of #LIDW25 featured a Fireside Chat with James Besley, Co-Head of Legal at Google DeepMind, in conversation with Gregory Mostyn, founder of Wexler.

“The law is always changing. It’s dynamic, and that’s when its values become most clear.” The #LIDW25 programme continued with a thought-provoking panel examining the interplay between geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, and international disputes.
