John Smoltz, pitcher mostly for the #Braves, was born #OTD in 1967. A eight-time All-Star, he led the league in wins twice and saves once, and won the Cy Young Award in 1996. Smoltz was part of the 1995 World Series winners and was elected to the #HallofFame in 2015.

Goose Goslin, outfielder mostly for the #Senators and #Tigers, died #OTD in 1971. An 11-time .300 hitter, he won a batting title in 1928 and twice led the league in triples. Goslin was part of two World Series winners and was elected to the #HallofFame in 1968.

George Brett, third baseman for the #Royals, was born #OTD in 1953. A 13-time All-Star, he won a Gold Glove and three batting titles, had 3,154 career hits, and was part of the 1985 World Series winners. Brett was elected to the #HallofFame in 1999.

Roy Halladay, pitcher for the #BlueJays and #Phillies, was born #OTD in 1977. An eight-time All-Star, he won two Cy Young Awards, one in each league, and won 20 games three times. Halladay had a 203-105 career record and 3.38 ERA, and was elected to the #HallofFame in 2019.

Tony Pérez, first baseman mostly for the #Reds, was born #OTD in 1942. A seven-time All-Star, he batted .300 three times and drove in 100 runs seven times. Pérez hit 379 homers, was part of two World Series winners, and was elected to the #HallofFame in 2000.

J.L. Wilkinson, owner of the Kansas City Monarchs, was born #OTD in 1878. His teams won 12 pennants and two World Series, and he innovated the use of portable lights for his teams to use while barnstorming. Wilkinson was elected to the #HallofFame in 2006.

Earle Combs, outfielder for the #Yankees, was born #OTD in 1899. A nine-time .300 hitter, he led the league in triples three times and scored 100 runs eight straight years. Combs was part of three World Series winners and was elected to the #HallofFame in 1970.

Heinie Manush, outfielder mostly for the #Senators and #Tigers, died #OTD in 1971. He batted over .300 eleven times, won the batting title in 1926, and led the league in hits and doubles twice each. Manush was a .330 career hitter and was elected to the #HallofFame in 1964.
