To celebrate National Transit Employee Appreciation Day, LIRR President Rob Free visited the Hillside Facility, where he joined machinists on the shop floor and took a turn operating a water jet machine. We deeply appreciate our employees that keep our railroad running safely and reliably every day. Some snowy MT-ASMR for your listening pleasure 🌨️🎧

Thank you to all of our employees who stepped up during this extreme winter weather event, which hit Long Island harder than any other part of our region. In some areas, you cleared more than 24 inches of snow, broke through ice buildup on third rails, and removed fallen trees from the tracks. To our teams in the command centers, thank you for working around the clock, guiding operations and service recovery. We were able to safely restore service because of your hard work and dedication. Your efforts are, and will always be, truly appreciated.

On Wednesday, the LIRR will return to regular service beginning at 12:01 a.m. There will still be some schedule adjustments because of the lingering effects of the storm. Check the TrainTime app to see if your train is affected and for service status updates.

We unleashed Darth Vader — the LIRR’s most powerful snow fighter in the galaxy (or system) — today to blast through 25+ inches of snow drifts on the East End.

We’re planning to run limited LIRR service starting at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, on the Ronkonkoma, Huntington, Babylon, Oyster Bay, Montauk, and Port Washington branches. We will work to restore the rest of our branches on a rolling basis throughout the day tomorrow and service will resume on a rolling basis as conditions allow. The blizzard may be slowing down, but we haven’t taken a snow day. Our crews have been out since yesterday clearing platforms, deploying de-icers, and ensuring that our trains and buses can travel safely during the storm. We’re grateful to our frontline employees for keeping the city moving.
