LJ Track and Field alumni Miley Ward competed in her first collegiate indoor meet for @RockhurstU_XCTF! Miley finished 9th out of 44 competitors with a jump of 5.33 meters. Looking forward to watching her compete this winter/spring!

XC legs are strong. XC brains are clueless. They’ve spent four months running by feel. Now you hand them a watch and ask for 68s. Good luck. The first month of track isn’t about speed— it’s about calibration. Start with 6×150 at goal 800 pace. Walk-back recovery. No watch until halfway—then call out the split. They’ll miss a few. Then they’ll start to feel the rhythm again. It’s not sexy, but neither is positive-splitting a 1600.

The hardest shift from XC to track? Convincing runners that less work can make them faster. They see fewer miles and think you’ve gone soft. You see sharper paces and know they’re finally about to learn what FAST feels like. XC is about surviving the grind. Track is about weaponizing it. We don’t drop volume to rest. We drop volume to raise the ceiling. Less dirt. More danger.

Two special individuals who had great finishes to some incredible XC careers! Was an honor to coach them everyday!
