Scotland's THIRD attempt to legalise assisted dying since the first in 2010 fell tonight in a 57-69 vote. Polls suggest that is out of step with public opinion, but Holyrood seems stubbornly resistant.

Today I shouted at the football and a man then shouted “Yeah! What she said!” and this is the pinnacle of my life’s achievement. (Although - full disclosure - I thought I was watching Wolverhampton as it’s the only English team I could think of. We’re in Middlesbrough)

So, yesterday was a hard day. I woke up to the news of James Vanderbeek's death. Like so many millions of Americans, I looked at the pictures of his six beautiful children and his lovely wife and my heart broke. But I suspect it broke a little differently than many. When you have cancer, learning of the death of a celebrity who has your diagnosis (and announced it about the same time you did no less), is a bit of a gut punch, to say the least. Though it's not just celebrity deaths that can blindside you. Someone will share of the loss of a family member or friend to cancer, and it hits you in a personal and fearful way. Someone in the Facebook support group who's been an active contributor is suddenly gone. To say it knocks you down emotionally, spiritually, would be an understatement. So as a Christian, what do you do with these feelings? First, like every other human being on the planet, you feel scared. You cry. You want to hide your head. And then you do what the Psalmists did. You stop listening to the fear in your heart and seek out the truth of the Word that stands regardless of the day's news. And you let THAT speak to you and drown out those fearful words. For me yesterday, Psalm 91. Just a bit of that: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you... And (once again) you place yourself in the hands of a benevolent Father. You tell him of your fear, your heartache, your failures. You make your requests known. And you rest in perhaps the sweetest doctrine a cancer fighter (or any Christian) can know. Providence. Providence assures us that God is not distantly watching our pain. He is not passively allowing events to unfold. He is continually, actively governing all things, from galaxies to governments to our (comparatively) small suffering. As RC Sproul put it, "there are no rogue molecules." What God's complete sovereignty means to someone like me is that my cancer is not random. It did not slip past God unnoticed. He was present before the diagnosis, at the diagnosis, and remains present in every moment of it. A God who loses control in suffering would be terrifying. A God who governs suffering and is making meaning from it is the only God who can be trusted. And it means that cancer cannot touch me beyond what God allows and what he allows will always be for my good, even if in ways I can't see or understand right now. So if you're like me and the Vanderbeek news hit you hard for personal reasons, know that you are not alone. And this day you have the opportunity to place yourself, if you have not already, in the hands of One who controls all things and in whom you can have perfect trust. When the hard days hit, He is waiting for you.

@coconservative7 So let me get this right, there was a video depicting him as king that he didn’t share? And in that video where he was king and the obamas are apes? And you somehow think this makes it okay?

It would take just a moment to research and figure out that Trump did not share an "Obamas are apes" video. He shared a video about election fraud that, when screengrabbed, was stopped late and included the first few seconds of an auto-played, cheesy "Trump as King of the Jungle" video that put Democrat pols' faces on jungle animals and Trump's on the lion (notice the 1:00 out of 1:02 timestamp in the screenshot?). You may not like the video that followed what Trump was *actually* sharing. You might think it's racist. You might even think that whoever posted it (Trump or a social media manager) purposefully left in the two seconds of the jungle video to make a needless, overtly racist statement about a previous president (ridiculous, IMO). But for crying out loud, at least know what you're getting upset about. Don't be so emotional and lazy. Don't be like Russ.

Racist. Deranged. Humiliating to our country. The fact that we have decided to pretend to this is normal every day is a moral abomination. Have we any shame? And every day an entire generation is being told it is “Christian” to support this. God have mercy on us.

@JoelWBerry Joel, come on. Even in the longer video - there are still black people depicted as apes. Unacceptable. And tell me, how many times have you been fed a video such as that, at the end of the previous video you’ve watched? Yeah, me neither. You’re fed what you consume.

There's a reason Russell Moore isn't showing the whole video - it's a Lion King montage and portrays a ton of people as animals. Biden is portrayed as a baboon. Hillary Clinton is a warthog, and Hakeem Jeffries is a meerkat. Kamala is a turtle. Whoopi Goldberg is a hippo. The whole video is hilarious. You'll never hear this king of moral outrage from Russell about the slaughter of the unborn, the sexual butchery of gender-confused children, or the vile institutional racism of the Left. A morally confused and weak man.

The idea that the POTUS, or his "staffer" posted that video not knowing there was a racist meme about the obamas on it, is so ludicrous as to defy not only logic, but the bounds of reality. And it it is true, it is an admission of an utterly profound incompetence and unfitness.

Christians, last week I posted an article exhorting us all to stop being gullible. Today is a good day to revisit that subject. The President posted a serious video about election integrity, which was a screen recording. The video was one minute long. At the very end, the video of the Obamas looking like monkeys popped up for one second before the screen recording was stopped, and that ending was not edited out. Find the original post and watch the whole thing. It was OBVIOUSLY an editing error. Whoever recorded it did a sloppy job editing and they've created a lot of unnecessary drama. But to take this as smoking gun evidence of Trump's unhinged racism is absurd. Yes, the White House needs to have tighter controls on this sort of thing to avoid embarrassing debacles like this. That said, it's also embarrassing how many people were quick to go online and issue their denouncements of Trump's "racist" and "deranged" post. So I'll say it again. Christians, stop being gullible.

@Protestia a video at the end of the feed is the algorithm feeding what you favour. The only time I have ever seen black people as apes is today because POTUS posted it. What comes up at the end of my YouTube videos is Dr Pimplepopper. It was there because he consumes such content, no?

Obviously the narrative has already been debunked and this is all just a bunch of lies by Democrat hack jobs, but even that aside, have you ever in your life seen such strong language from Moore from anything Democrats have ever done? New abortion policies? Silence. Trans and the kids? Silence. Some lie about Trump? Dude is coming hot and heavy .

@megbasham @JohnPiper Did he not (or the staffer) not check what was being posted Megan? If it came up at the end of the video then their algorithm is feeding them what they favour. The alleged full video of numerous animal politicians still has black people as apes. There’s no false narrative.

Again, Pastor Piper, you can recognize that the image alone was a racist one (and I do)”. But we now know that this was a false narrative circulating, and that the actual video that Trump posted was on election fraud. And a few seconds of this popped up at the end as a separate reel. Moore’s take is slanderous.
