🚨🚨🚨 Holy shit: A group of parents in Tennessee are OUTRAGED that a local school board caved to a conservative group and cancelled a librarian’s Mother's Day lesson inclusive to kids without moms. The parents boldly confronted the Hamilton County School Board and held nothing back: One dad said, “This is 2023. I'm a Christian man, married to a woman, but I think everyone should be represented fairly. If you want to keep your kids in a closet and just shelter them from everything, homeschool them. Send them to Christian school. This is a public school for everyone. Everyone. I've dealt with that woman. She loves these kids.” The organization Moms for Liberty is a right-wing organization that campaigns against social progress and civil rights. They target local school board meetings and has deep connections to the Republican Party. Moms for Liberty also promoted stripping districts of protective COVID-19 measures and are bad news. Thank you to these brave parents for speaking out! 💙💙💙

BREAKING: The Florida legislature has just passed a bill that allows the government to take children away from their parents if they receive gender-affirming care. Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law. While I disagree with allowing for genital surgery in children and teens (under 18), the potential side effects of puberty blockers are minimal. As far as we know, they are no worse than that of many other optional childhood medications. They give teenagers more time to decide if they want to transition. As a parent, with medical doctors and psychologists behind you, you should have the right to decide if you want to allow your child to hold off on puberty, if they so desire. To tell a parent who truly believes that giving their child puberty blockers will be good for that child in the long run, that they are not free to make that decision, is absurd in my opinion. DeSantis loves to talk about Freedom, but in this case he’s stripping that freedom from Parents. The government should stay out of this.

@GCapital_LLC @EdKrassen You have to agree though that this can cause a slippery slope effect for anything that can be seen as harmful to children from as big as treatments for ADHD to as small as letting kids watch TV before the age of 2. Both are controversial and can have “harmful long term impacts.”

I respectfully disagree. Protecting children should be the top priority of any government, and that includes protecting them from potential harm caused by gender-affirming care. Puberty blockers are not a harmless medication, and their long-term effects are still unknown. Allowing parents to make decisions that can potentially harm their children is not true freedom. It's important for the government to step in and protect vulnerable minors who may not have the capacity to make informed decisions for themselves. Governor DeSantis is doing the right thing by signing this bill into law. It's about protecting children, not taking away freedom.

@whsbuss @cjprof4 @Will_Bunch @PhillyInquirer And they do. Schools have policies in place to opt their own children out of instructions and materials they don’t agree with. Parents just need to do their jobs by talking to teachers and librarians and filling out the proper paperwork.

The kids reading the books you are pearl clutching about are the youth that are smart, successful model students.

Here is my problem with the Laws against Drag Shows that DeSantis and Lee put forth in Florida and Tennessee. Why are they targeting the LGBTQ+ communities ? - It is LEGAL to bring your child into R-rated movies which show nudity and actual sex. - It is LEGAL to bring your kids to topless beaches in Florida and to Spring break where drunk college kids do far worse than drag queens, on PUBLIC property. But. - It is ILLEGAL to bring your child into a non-nude show where drag queens may or may not joke around about sex or dance in a sexual manner, clothed. These states are all about “parental rights” when it comes to education and religion but when they can use their power to attack minorities those rights fly out the window.
