I tried to manufacture products in Africa. The optimist in me said “let’s create jobs at home!” Here’s what I learned: Getting cardboard boxes requires 1,000 minimum order, 50% upfront, and 4-8 weeks wait.  In the US? Order online, next day delivery, no minimum order. Now multiply that struggle across EVERYTHING you need to run a business. That’s why Africa stays poor.  Not colonialism. Not racism.  The regulations make legal business nearly impossible. And yet we keep adding more regulations, wondering why nothing changes.
