Morus Londinium goes on the hunt of mulberries at Lullingstone Castle - former site of the famous Silk Farm - and finds an unusual Osigian mulberry cultivar - and Tom Hart Dyke’s amazing World Garden. moruslondinium.org/research/lulli…

Claire Weiss Susan Whitfield and I spent a wonderful day with Tom Hart Dyke at Lullingstone Castle not only seeing the Osigian mulberry cultivar grandmother Zoe used to feed to her silkworms but also the private archive from Silk Farm days thanks to Sarah Hart Dyke. 🙏

It's peak mulberry season. This beauty was planted 10 years ago at @lilacleeds. They are really juicy and bleed all over the hands.

This was one of four planted at each corner of the square West garden. The other three were removed - not sure why / when and have been replaced - in past 20 years ? These new trees are now fruiting well too. There are others of similar age in the adjacent orchard.

Spent a day revisiting the archives of Christ’s College Cambridge exploring the history of extraordinary 17th century “Milton’s Mulberry” (not planted by the poet). The mound was added around 1850 to support a once single -stemmed tree damaged by a hurricane in 1795.
