I am old enough to remember when people tended to die of gunshot wounds to the head, and when blood used to be cleaned from around wounds as part of the disinfecting procedure before the application of bandages. But I am not a doctor so what do I know!

I don't use soap but I cooked a sugared bacon in my pan the other day. I've scraped with plastic, stainless steel, added coarse salt and oil, scrubbed with non-abrasive pad - still not clean. I'm thinking of putting it in the oven to let it burn off. Not sure what to try next. It was not well-seasoned to begin with - but I've been making cornbread in it without any of it sticking so it was sorta well-seasoned. I won't be cooking bacon in it at all now.

Ever own a cast iron skillet? The old days the thinking was, don't soap a skillet. That was mostly because the harsher soaps broke through the well oiled, well seasoned protective coating. Now a days though, a mild dish soap, a quick rinse and a re-season and you're done. Do you know any other tricks for a cast iron skillet?

@AllieJade1 I love mine, I have 2 and use every day, stir fry, fry-up, roasting and baking all good. If one needs washing I mostly add water only, bring to boil (very fast on induction) and scrub with handled brush, then rinse, wipe out, re-grease, dry on woodburner or in oven.
