New Scouting series👀 Starting today, I'll create a thread of riders available next year. I'll mainly target u25 rider, from Pro and Conti teams that I think could perform at a higher level. I will use results and Strava content to show you what makes them special. Stay tuned🔁

What if support motorbikes in cycling races had lasers that change color based on distance to the riders? Instant visual feedback to maintain safe gaps and reduce drafting advantage, bringing transparency and fairness to the race !
Benji Naesen@BenjiNaesen

I'm rewatching today's stage and on first impressions there wasn't a major motopacing difference between the breakaway and the peloton today. Both groups had a motorbike in front of them for a lot of the race. I think it's underrated how much a city circuit impacts the possibility of a breakaway staying ahead. #GirodItalia

Yes. Weight related to elevation is still overlooked. Big riders go fast on the flat, light riders go faster as the gradients ramp up. But which gradient do you feel is the middle ground between them ?
Jonas Creteur@jonas_creteur

Yes, Jonas Vingegaard is not at his best level (what is planned). Yes, losing 1'04'' on Arensman, 18" on O'Connor is a bit too much. But also this nuance: only 105 vertical meters in 42 FLAT km's. ⚖️ Vingegaard: 58 kg 👉 Lightest rider in top 10? Arensman 68 kg (PCS weight)

@LPDouces About 5.5%, this was decided on Alto Colorado when Superman finally managed to get rid of Ganna after a massive battle.

One of the harsh realities with projects like FirstCycling is that the workload behind them is enormous while the financial side never really reflects it. Cycling databases are incredibly hard to monetize properly, which sadly means many people only realize their value once the updates stop coming.

Mate, don't talk about detailed study when you don't account for weather conditions and use W/kg without etalon metric. Equipment could play a role but this is literally comparing apples and oranges.

Parliamone...

It's nice to see HBO Max have its multi-screen livestream, but using 50% of the screen to show non-live GC rankings, and a shitty version of the race profile is definitely a waste of real estate. 🙈 Just show the different camera angles. That's it. #GirodItalia

@BenjiNaesen And this should be pressured by the teams in the first place. With long range attacks in modern cycling, peloton gets close to no coverage at all.

@Plakbidon1 If you put him at 65kg, referencing peak watts (say conservatively 20w/kg) and take a 3 months period, that's less than 5% overall (60/1300). Pretty common for a 19yo.

@LPDouces No matter how you scale this, the improvement over the winter remains crazy for a rider of that level.

One day, pro cycling will normalise the use of split-screen to display what's happening in multiple groups at the same time. It's hilarious how little it's used in our sport.
