Did you know there's a time limit for making a complaint about excessive costs or inadequate services? You must make your complaint within 3 yrs of the issue as the LSRA cannot investigate matters outside this time limit. There's no time limit for complaints about misconduct.

The report focuses on lessons from complaints relating to wills & probate, to inform consumers on what they can expect from legal services & highlight good practice for solicitors. Raising awareness of common issues & how they can be avoided is a key part of our role.

It's encouraging this week to see the LSRA’s latest report reaching a wider audience, with coverage in the Irish Independent (front page and page 4), The Irish Times, Law Gazette, and Irish Legal News, with discussion on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland and Virgin Media One's Ireland AM.

📣 This morning we’ve published our latest Independent Complaints Handling report, covering the period 3 Sept 2025 - 6 March 2026. During this time, we received 1,000 complaints for investigation, an increase of 19% from the previous period. (1/2)

Often complaints arise not from the outcome of a legal matter, but from misunderstandings about process or costs. Good communication can prevent issues & supports confidence in legal services. This informs LSRA's approach to promoting transparency & high standards in the sector.

🔎Client funds must be released promptly by solicitors. In Andressa's complaint to the LSRA, the Complaints Committee found no justification in the delay in releasing the proceeds of a property sale. The solicitor was directed to pay €500 compensation.👉lsra.ie/publications/c…
