High school football in Illinois officially received a massive improvement on Tuesday when the IHSA announced the results of its annual school vote. Some of the things on social media over the last 24 hours - the emotion, the lack of fully understanding the issues and even one person posting that this was going to impact boys soccer and girls flag football…..mercy. Take a deep breath, and here’s all you need to know. Football expanding its postseason and changing the 2026 schedule is a very, very minor short-term adjustment for a massive overall impact. These minor adjustments in the BIG picture that have to be made have plenty of time to be adjusted. Read that again. Imagine the stress of being an AD during the spring when you’re rescheduling 101 events due to a bad weather week, transportation logistics, officials, workers, lower-level games and then trying to manage adults fighting over indoor practice space. And guess what? It happens over and over and over in the spring. Nonstop adjusting on the fly at the end of a school year that featured Friday nights and weekends for months for exhausted athletic departments. Read that again and think. That part is so under appreciated - especially getting all the lower-lever games in and all the communication around everything with understaffed athletic departments, who at times deal with coaches who are poor communicators and make the job even harder. Football HAD to change. The crap that has gone on with W1/W2 for years, schools trying to find games, conferences breaking up and thus impacting 1,000s upon 1,000s of other kids from activities to athletics, school leaders ALL over knew change was needed. This is so much bigger than, “OMG 3-win teams get in the playoffs.” Unless you were living under a rock, this is not a surprise. Talk to athletic directors, principals, #ILSupts, people on legislative committees and learn the tone from the town halls across the state. It was overwhelming known for more than a year that this was going to happen - moving to 3-wins when it comes to the IHSA football playoffs. I told you Monday to get ready for happy and unhappy people. Some adults just do not get the bigger picture. This is good for kids - all kids - and that’s what some adults don’t get…ALL. Engage and educate yourself around the full scope of this change, and always remember: #MoreThanJUSTGames.

If we expand playoffs, then seed straight across the state. If we're all good with 2 and 3 win teams getting in, then travel should be good too. My thoughts, agree to disagree, I don't care. Lets put the best bracket out.

Congrats to Coach Sementi on being inducted into the most recent class of the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association (IHSFCA) Hall of Fame. He is the second Tuscola HS coach to be inducted into 2 IL coaching Hall of Fames (FB, Softball). *Coach Wienke (FB, T&F).

This is a double leg. Something they’re currently teaching in my 4 year old’s wrestling practice. Want your kids to be good at football, get them in wrestling.
