This week is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week. Each day, we’re giving you a Maryland fact you need to know. Fact #1: Overdose deaths in Maryland have reached a 10-year low. This progress is driven by our partners across government and across Maryland. Check out the work of the Maryland Overdose Response Advisory Council, to see how representatives from 18 state agencies are working to reduce overdose morbidity and mortality in Maryland: stopoverdose.maryland.gov/MORAC

Honoring many pioneering women of the @MDSP this #WomensHistoryMonth for their committment to public service, and the barriers they broke for generations to come. Their legacy lives on in every woman who follows.

On @wbalradio with C4 and Bryan Nehman at Insight ConneX, I talked about why businesses aren’t just looking at Maryland—they’re choosing Maryland. From biotech to advanced manufacturing to emerging tech, companies from across the country and around the world are investing here, creating jobs, and growing our economy. When you invest in Maryland, you invest in talent, innovation, and opportunity.

They were the first. And because of them, they won’t be the last. The first female Maryland State Police troopers.
The first African American woman to become a Major.
The first woman Lieutenant Colonel.
The first Latina leader in the State Fire Marshal’s Office. And many more who could not be in attendance, but who are all trailblazers who changed the future of public safety in Maryland. At a time when doors were closed, these women stepped forward anyway. They changed what public service looks like in Maryland, and now, generations of women can walk through those same doors with confidence and belonging. Proud to honor these pioneers of @MDSP this #WomensHistoryMonth.

Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating in Maryland and around the world. After a month of reflection, prayer, and sacrifice, Eid al-Fitr is a time to come together in gratitude, compassion, and community. It’s a reminder of the strength we find in faith and in one another. May this day bring peace, joy, and renewed hope to you and your loved ones. 🌙✨

Honored to welcome @NSBE to Baltimore for their annual convention — one of the largest gatherings of Black engineers, students, and STEM leaders in the world. As an engineer myself, I know the power of this work. When we invest in diverse talent, we strengthen our workforce, fuel innovation, and build a future that works for everyone. Maryland is proud to be a home for innovation, and we’re ready to build that future together.

Honored to welcome Mayor Lu Shiow-yen and the Taichung City delegation to the Maryland State House today. With more than 20,000 Taiwanese Americans in the DMV, our connection is strong—and growing. We discussed expanding partnerships in semiconductors, aerospace, green energy, and AI, and building on collaboration through efforts like TEDCO. Looking forward to what we can achieve together.

I know what it means to juggle work, family, and everything in between. No one should have to choose between caring for a loved one and earning a paycheck. Maryland’s Paid Family & Medical Leave Act is about giving people the time and security they need during life’s most important moments. Because when we support families, we build a stronger, more compassionate Maryland. Here's more from my interview with @mymcmedia.

Severe storms are moving through Maryland today, and our state is under a State of Preparedness. Our teams are coordinating across agencies and monitoring conditions in real time to keep Marylanders safe. If you can, stay home and stay weather-aware. A few ways to prepare: • Charge phones and devices in case of power outages • Secure outdoor items that could blow away in strong winds • Have a plan for where to shelter if a tornado warning is issued • Avoid driving if possible — if you must, watch for flooding and downed lines • If your vehicle becomes disabled, call #77 to reach Maryland State Police Let’s look out for one another and stay safe, Maryland.

Celebrating 50 years of service, scholarship, and sisterhood with the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. ❤️🤍 Honored to join more than a thousand community leaders at the 50th Annual Scholarship Benefit Fashion Show and Luncheon—a powerful tradition that has helped award more than $1.7 million in scholarships to students in Prince George’s County. Organizations like this remind us that when we invest in education and lift up the next generation, we strengthen our entire community. Congratulations on five decades of impact—and here’s to many more years of empowering young leaders. ✨

To every girl interested in STEM: the world needs you. Loved talking with @myfairladyt on @BmoreLifestyle about why encouraging the next generation of girls in science, technology, engineering, and math matters.

I have declared a State of Preparedness ahead of significant risk for widespread, severe storms and a heightened tornado threat across the state tomorrow, with @MDMEMA coordinating readiness efforts across state government. The safety of Maryland families comes first, and I am urging everyone to prepare early, stay informed, and adjust plans – including postponing travel – as conditions change. Please review preparedness recommendations at go.md.gov/StormPrep

It was an honor to join the young leaders of BOLDHer Future for their “First to Be HER” event. Speaking with girls about courage, confidence, and leadership reminded me why representation matters. When young women see themselves in leadership, they begin to believe anything is possible. The future is bright — and these girls are ready to lead. 💫

In an interview with @mymcmedia: America is a nation of immigrants. 🇺🇸 Leaders from both parties have long said that anyone can come here, work hard, and become an American. That promise is what makes our country strong. Rhetoric that targets immigrants only divides us. We should be lifting people up, not tearing communities down. In Maryland, we will always stand for the idea that our diversity is our strength.

Earlier this week, I convened the Washington/Baltimore HIDTA and the Maryland Department of Health's Rapid Analysis of Drug (RAD) program to brief @MDHealthDept, @MDSP, @StopOverdoseMD, the Maryland Overdose Response Advisory Council, Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Overdose Response, and our partners at @MarylandGOCCP on emerging drug trends in our state. By improving our understanding of the drug supply we can empower individuals with the knowledge they need to reduce their own risk, and provide our agencies with the critical data necessary to meet new threats head on. We know that addressing the overdose crisis requires a whole-of-government approach. Collaboration and cooperation among federal, state, and local agencies, including continuing to bridge the gap between public health and public safety, is critical to increasing the effectiveness of our efforts to reduce overdoses across Maryland. We are proud to be united in this effort in saving lives.
