The first Latina leader in the State Fire Marshal’s Office. And many more who could not be in attendance, but who are all trailblazers who changed the future of public safety in Maryland. At a time when doors were closed, these women stepped forward anyway. They changed what public service looks like in Maryland, and now, generations of women can walk through those same doors with confidence and belonging. Honored to welcome Mayor Lu Shiow-yen and the Taichung City delegation to the Maryland State House today. With more than 20,000 Taiwanese Americans in the DMV, our connection is strong—and growing. We discussed expanding partnerships in semiconductors, aerospace, green energy, and AI, and building on collaboration through efforts like TEDCO. Looking forward to what we can achieve together.

Severe storms are moving through Maryland today, and our state is under a State of Preparedness. Our teams are coordinating across agencies and monitoring conditions in real time to keep Marylanders safe. If you can, stay home and stay weather-aware. It was an honor to join the young leaders of BOLDHer Future for their “First to Be HER” event. Speaking with girls about courage, confidence, and leadership reminded me why representation matters. When young women see themselves in leadership, they begin to believe anything is possible. The future is bright — and these girls are ready to lead. 💫

In an interview with @mymcmedia: America is a nation of immigrants. 🇺🇸 Leaders from both parties have long said that anyone can come here, work hard, and become an American. That promise is what makes our country strong. Rhetoric that targets immigrants only divides us. We should be lifting people up, not tearing communities down. In Maryland, we will always stand for the idea that our diversity is our strength.

Earlier this week, I convened the Washington/Baltimore HIDTA and the Maryland Department of Health's Rapid Analysis of Drug (RAD) program to brief @MDHealthDept, @MDSP, @StopOverdoseMD, the Maryland Overdose Response Advisory Council, Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Overdose Response, and our partners at @MarylandGOCCP on emerging drug trends in our state. By improving our understanding of the drug supply we can empower individuals with the knowledge they need to reduce their own risk, and provide our agencies with the critical data necessary to meet new threats head on. We know that addressing the overdose crisis requires a whole-of-government approach. Collaboration and cooperation among federal, state, and local agencies, including continuing to bridge the gap between public health and public safety, is critical to increasing the effectiveness of our efforts to reduce overdoses across Maryland. We are proud to be united in this effort in saving lives.
