The month of March is National Athletic Training Month. During March, athletic trainers across America are being recognized for their commitment to helping people prevent injuries and stay healthy and active. As healthcare professionals, they are highly educated and dedicated to the job at hand. We are very fortunate to have 3 athletic trainers at LT who spend countless hours ensuring the safety of our athletes during practices and competitions. This month we honor our athletic trainers: Kristine Vins, Bob Fichter, and Amanda Buchanan for their essential role in providing quality health care for our athletes every day. #WeAreLT

The Vita Plena Award has been presented by the Superintendent to a deserving individual since the mid-1990s. The award is generally presented to someone who embodies inspiration, creativity, kindness, and selflessness, and who consistently goes above and beyond in service to our school community. As we looked to honor a staff member with a Vita Plena Award for Quarter 2, Nancy Kalkowski was a natural choice. Nancy joined LT in October 2005 in a temporary role and quickly transitioned into a permanent position as an Administrative Assistant in Applied Arts in June 2006, where she also assisted with summer school. Since then, she has served in roles in the Assessment and Research Office, the College and Career Center, and her current role as Registrar and Administrative Assistant in Student Services. Nancy holds a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and previously served as a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts of America. Before joining LT, she worked in the Financial Aid Office at DePaul University as well as the World Academy of Irish Dancing as an Administrative Assistant. Most importantly, we are proud to work with Nancy as she supports our staff, students, and community. Everything she does embodies what the Vita Plena Award represents, which is why we are honored to recognize her here tonight. This award is especially timely, as Nancy is retiring from LT at the end of this week. Huge congratulations on a well-deserved retirement! Nancy, congratulations and thank you for all the ways you support the LT community!
