Millions in Europe in the 20th century suffered under totalitarian regimes, including Estonia, which endured successive occupations with thousands deported and repressed. Remembering the victims is our shared responsibility. Estonia will contribute €50,000 to the Pan-European Memorial for the Victims of Totalitarianism in Brussels, as I announced today to my Lithuanian colleague @BudrysKestutis.

Lithuania, Latvia and Poland commit to closer cooperation to secure our shared EU external borders and counter hybrid threats from Russia and Belarus. With @EvikaSilina and @donaldtusk, we issued a joint declaration enhancing info sharing, coordination and joint response to strengthen resilience on land, at sea & in the air. What hostile regimes test against one country is soon used against others. Our most effective response is collective action. 🔗tinyurl.com/4a28p287

The 1863–1864 Uprising is a powerful testament to courage, unity, and the fight for freedom. Lithuanians, Poles, Belarusians, and Ukrainians rose together against Russian imperial oppression. Today, we symbolically commemorate this uprising together. For Lithuania, this uprising sparked the national awakening and laid the foundation for future independence. It still reminds us today that freedom endures only when it is defended, and that unity with an unbreakable spirit can change the course of history.

Today in Warsaw, together with the President of Poland @NawrockiKn, we commemorate the January Uprising of 1863–1864. The Uprising is not merely a distant echo of the past. Today, more clearly than ever before, we understand that freedom cannot be taken for granted. May the January Uprising, in which the peoples of Lithuania, Poland, Belarus & Ukraine fought side by side under one banner, become a source of inspiration for our entire region.
