(Ahem, #lalege) Louisiana being ranked 49th in this measure is no surprise as I witness youth in need of continuing their mental health services get denied over & over by the six Healthy Louisiana plans. Once a child makes some progress their Medicaid plan prematurely discharges them. Even after 8 years of managing this vulnerable population, Louisiana’s Medicaid plans fail to individualize care in favor of sweeping one size fits all approaches. The behavioral health spectrum poses the greatest challenge for MCO systems because these individuals often require a broad spectrum of services at varying levels of intensity for extended periods. Yet, MCO approaches are directed at controlling service utilization and containing costs. With the percentage of Louisianans with serious mental illness outpacing the US and our southern neighbors, it is time for something different. It’s time for Louisiana to prioritize mental health and create a plan just for them. #mentalhealthmatters #mhlouisiana

If you're a child living in poverty, Louisiana NOT participating in a federal program that is designed to provide food assistance to over 500,000 poor children over the summer helps fulfill the DCFS "mission" to create a "pathway to self-sufficiency." But supporting and promoting a federal program designed to subsidize billions of dollars for carbon sequestration projects, that aren't economically viable without the federal dollars, (the exact opposite of self-sufficiency) is a better use of taxpayer dollars and is what's best for our economy long-term?
