Lawyers Without Borders
@LWOB
Developing International Rule of Law initiatives featuring LWOB managed and leveraged pro bono resources to build capacity in justice sectors worldwide.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions conducted a virtual hearing from the child-friendly interview room located at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) building. The accused person Joshua Oonda faces multiple charges of child pornography and online abuse. Prosecution through Valentine Manyasi presented the first witness, a 14-year-old victim, who gave her testimony in the facility, a safe environment designed to protect her well-being and ensure her comfort. In April 2024, the Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Igonga, OGW, launched this pioneering initiative to facilitate child-friendly interviews using technology. The initiative established with support from Lawyers without Borders aims to pre-record evidence from child victims, thereby minimizing secondary victimization and ensuring accurate testimony. Additionally, the Office has established eight more child-friendly interview rooms in Mombasa, Lamu, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kajiado, Kiambu, Kibera, and Makadara to further facilitate efficient delivery of justice to child-victims. #HakiNaUsawa
